EQ presets? O.o

EQ presets? i mean, how? and why? EQ is totally source material dependent!

EQ PRESETS!!! OMG CHRISTMAS HAS COME EARLY!

These are a place to start for certain things. Like highlighting female vocals. Obviously every track needs something different, but not everyone knows where to start I pulled these from iZotope Ozone, so I am sure people can learn something from analyzing them

Yeah, when you are in a middle of a producing something, and don't want to spare your time for tweaking the EQ, a sort of a standard drum, vocal, keys, preset will really fasten up your workflow, and wont let you lose the musical idea.

Leave it till the mix down or if it really bothers you EQ it yourself? If something sounds so bad that you can't use stand hearing it without EQ maybe it isn't the right sound for the track

This is the type of stuff that makes people process things simply because they think they are supposed to. EQ presets are really incredibly useless (no offense OP, just my opinion)

I respectfully disagree. I am self taught and have learned a great deal from presets, for a VSTi or a VST. Seeing how a pro EQs his pads, for instance, helps... I also find have stick presets ready very useful. A for instance. When making heavy bass music I always EQ my sub more or less the same. It is so much easier dragging and dropping my sub EQ preset than spending time re-inputting the parameters. Repetition slows my creativity. However, if you don't want them, don't get them, but it shouldn't matter what other people do

Yeah man I respect you for trying to help but it kind of does matter what other people do - if a beginner comes across this and downloads them it is going to do them a lot more harm than good. Its cool if you have a firm understanding of what you are doing and you want to use presets as a starting point especially for creative effects, but I think if you are using presets for your EQing 9 times out of 10 you are going to be doing more damage than good. You shouldnt be spending time re-inputting the paramaters because the parameters should be different almost every time. Seeing how a pro EQs a pad is completely useless unless he is sitting there explaining why he did what he did

Imo unless you are using the exact same pad and want it to fit in with the exact same sounds it's useless to see how "pro" EQs a pad and if anything will probably get you into a bad habit of EQing pads that way when your pad requires a different EQ curve.

And also EQing a sub is completely different as the only EQing a sub could ever need is 1 simple low pass filter

My sub EQ is not a simple low pass filter... But, this discussion doesn't seem to be headed anywhere... You guys keep doing what you do, I will keep doing what I do... Nothing but love for good music, no matter how it was made

Its just not a good thing to get in to bad habits, thats all! Thats kind of what I was saying before, if you are using presets to EQ you are probably EQing for the wrong reasons, unless every one of your songs uses the same sounds occupying the same space (frequency, time, and panorama)

I think you will find that most good mix engineers even automate their EQs to change depending on what is currently happening in the tune

May I ask how you are EQing you're sub then? o.o

EQ presets are so stupid. How would you set an EQ up for vocals for example? What if they had too much at 2khz - would your preset already know that?

Best to do it by ear, don't just throw a preset on a sound!
