I went to some rave in Brooklyn over the weekend. Blunts, molly, ect and it was fun... but there's something lame about it to me. I can't pin point it. I guess I just dont really identify with the [rave] culture. Everyone is nice with the whole peace, unity, respect shit or w/e but I kind of just wanted to be like dude I dont wanna touch you. There were hot girls which was great, but i feel like they just want you to walk in and conform to their whole let loose thing. I'm the kind of guy who reacts to the music. I dont fake it and I feel like a lot of people at raves are faking it. I mean if you like the electro and hardstyle thats cool but if those people were as cool as they think they are why dont they play like underground dubtep/ drum and bass. The coolest people I met were the ones who were kind of skeptical of the whole rave culture thing and where just smokin cigs outside.
What are you guys' experiences with raves?

Someone should make a doco on this new American 'rave' culture for entertainment purposes.

definitely agree with you. don't get me wrong i got started with electronic music by going to raves when i was a youngin and not knowing shit about the music, so part of me is like yeah, let the kids have their fun, eventually some of them will see the light one day. but yeah, when i went to a "rave" in BK recently, it was like "dear god get me out of this place". unfortunately nowadays raves are dominated by really shit music. you kinda have to find the offshoot scenes if you want the good stuff, which there is plenty of , so don't give up also westchester whats good ?
and honestly, there's shit rave scenes in every country. you could go to a mainstream all ages rave anywhere and i guarantee you find just as many pilled up douchebags and scantily clad girls as in america
I want to go to an acid house rave from the early 90's soooo bad

i guess the whole late 80s early 90s rave culture is nostalgic and all that but when i think of raves in 2013 what comes to my mind is EDM, rock-concerty lighting and pyros and sports arenas.. not really digging it. rave is not the best word to describe my kind of night out, it's more like 'dj gig at a club' and no drugs
it's a lot about the music as well. raves at least in this corner of the world are mostly associated with different kinds of trance, psy, hard etc which is definitely not my thing. i also fucking hate people waving glowsticks

That's because NY is a piece of shit OP.
Overblown everything, and laden with filth.
