Anyone knows how to make raining pads? Like ones in rap songs, with thunders and shit.

I think they're probably just samples, that's what I've always used anyway. There's tons of royalty free ones around and they're usually a few minutes long too

So people just basically go out with mics while it's raining?

http://www.freesound.org has loads of royalty free samples. I often use that for all of my samples like that.

If you have a Mac you already have the sounds you're looking for. If not, interwebz.

Weather VSTs

There are actually several VST's that do a good job of recreating rain and wind etc.

Xoxos has several different atmospheric sound generaters including one for rain. http://www.xoxos.net/vst/vst.html#nature

Audiogaming have just released a new VST that do the same thing. http://www.audiogaming.net/audiowind-audiorain

-------------------

Weather Samples

An easy one to find will be 'rainstick samples'

Google search for Kontakt weather sample packs, that ought to bring something up. ;)

-------------------

How To Synthesise Weather Effects

At a push, rain can be synthesised using white noise filtered using a bandpass filter so only the mid and high frequencies remain. Change the filter frequency to alter the 'intensity' of the rain.

You can make drip sounds by filtering a clap sound with a high pass filter so only the highest frequencies remain. Add some reverb for good effect.

Wind can be made using white noise filtered with a low pass filter with high resonance. Automate changes to the filter cutoff frequency and resonance amount to emulate gusts of wind and howling etc.

Layer these sounds together possibly with a sample of a running tap and your done! :4:

Patrick :)
