In all seriousness reaper. It isnt really a 60 day trial, you can just keep evaluating when the trials over. If you feel you are going to use it you probably should buy it though, its dead cheap.

Nanostudio. It's just a PC port of the iPad version, but it's really good. It's kind of like Reason/FL Studio lite.

The Open-Source community has developed a number of really good Audio Workstations. As far as the end-user is concerned, the term "open-source" means entails free software. Here are a few good examples:
-LMMS (Linux MultiMedia Studio) : Despite the name, it is available for Windows, Mac, and (of course) Linux. A near-perfect FL-Studio clone. Its version of 3xosc is better than Image-Line's
-Ardour : Linux-only, but a powerful app. Unfortunately, pre-compiled binaries actually cost money but compiling the source-code is easy and Arch even has in prepackaged in the repos.
-DarkWave Studio : Windows-only. Great modular environment. Full-featured workstation.
-Buzz : Extremely flexible; More difficult to use than the more popular commercial sequencers.
Reaper is also very powerful, but it is technically not free... the trial just doesn't have any limitations.
