EDIT: HERE IS THE UPDATED VERSION
Soundcloud

=================================================
BELOW IS THE ORIGINAL
i just wrapped up another song, it's my usual style of trancey drum n bass. the lead melody is a supersaw from my roland jp8000 and the other sounds are from sylenth and zebra. as insane as it sounds i don't usually put bass sounds in my songs cuz i'm not get at getting the movement i want out of them to make them work so i lean more on the melodic/trancey side using pads for the somewhat-low end above the sub bass. this time i finally put a bass sound in the song, used Dune as the synth for the bass, not much modulation but i think it works real well due to the melody. the song's namesake comes from the "rolly" vibe of the bass, some of you might "get it", some might not ;)

anyway i hope you guys like it. i've been putting a lot of time into a couple different songs i've been working on lately but have hit a slump cuz of job stress. there's nothing like spending most of your life in a damn office to kill your creativity and suck your soul dry too for that matter :\ damn capitalist effect on life and society

there's no weight man, that's really not good for a dnb tune. :?

hi
very good arrangement melodic and rhythm work i real good to.
i see your point in trying to break free as i myself try to interprete the roots in my own way....
but i have to agree that the bass should get more presence..
still, a really good track to my ears

thanks for the replies. regarding the bass needing more presence - are you guys referring to sub bass or the "rolly" bass that i mentioned in the original post?

ya i'm with everyone else, the leads are cool and the song has a good building feeling but at no point does it punch you in the chest with deep bass. The kick is also quite soft. Maybe layering a sub kick without any reverb on it under the hits would help? really just needs something in the low register at some point. Maybe forgo the sub-kick and put in a sub-bass.

gotcha, i got rid off too much thump. i actually did that on purpose because the constant sustained sub bass drowned out the higher frequency "rolly"/gritty bass even though i had EQ'ed them to their respective bands. i went ahead and tried 2 different ideas for the sub layer, neither one has sustain cranked up so there's no problem with it drowning out the higher frequency bass layer. let me know what you guys think or which one sounds better or if it's not quit there yet or still not enough presence:

option 1 (808 sub bass):
i went back to the old school and slapped in 808 sub bass (think along the lines of ltj bukem, etc)

option 2 (regular sine wave sub bass, but long decay, no sustain):
this is closer-sounding to having a sustained sub bass due to the decay being so long, of course it's not a sustained sub bass, it's more punchy but it sounds more sustained/less punchy than the 808

i re-did the drums since it seemed they came across a little weak before. not much else changed aside from a little the phases are sequenced a little differently, i think it definitely sounds much better now. in comparison it definitely makes the drums in the original seem weak. i'm not really going for thunder drums or anything like that, but i think the song's coming across properly now. the bass sounds cleaner now too, i must've done bad EQ work on the drums in the original.
