Need some advice

Ok so I am participating in a remix competition and the deadline is May 7th. I already have my track finished, but what would be the best way to submit it? Either I could submit a roughly compressed/limited poor master of my own, the original mix down, or should I pay to have my track mastered professionally before submitting it? If, hypothetically, it wins, wouldn't the record label want to do their own master of the track?

Hmm what I would perhaps do is compress it and limit it. If I had the money to spend freely then I'd think about sending it off for mastering. You want it to sound the best it possibly can, so it's up to you.

I mean, I COULD pay to get it mastered, I just would rather keep that money. Do you think the judges would take into account that I just roughly mastered the track myself or...? :/

Getting it sent off for mastering will present the track in a much better light which could give you a competitive advantage.

The judges may or may not take it into consideration but I know that if I was judging tracks it may be something that might help swing my vote.

There is no guarantee that sending the track off and paying for mastering will win you the competition but it would be an investment that could give you an advantage against the others.

I would say the answer is probably obviously no, they aren't going to give you bonus points if you didn't get a professional master - they are just going to judge the track on how good it is. But you can very easily just ask the judges right now if you want...

This guy posted on the forum a few weeks ago offering his online mastering for only $5 - http://www.dubstepforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=8&t=270193

You can get it here - http://fiverr.com/ycharb/make-a-profess ... your-track

I think that would be worth it for only 5 bucks.

Or they could look at it as someone who cares about the quality of the final product. It's small attentions to detail that could help swing a vote.

5$ professional mastering? Sounds a little too good to be true, anyone actually get it done by this guy?

May 7th? Sounds like plenty of time to master it. The record label will most definitely master it themselves.
Give it the best master you can - compress, EQ, compress/multiband, limit.

Mastering, as we all know, is an art of it's own so the label&judges aren't expecting something of incredible mastering standards.

P.S. if someone's charging $5 for their services, they obviously have no conviction in their own abilities to do it well enough to charge well.

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah 5$ mastering sounds like something I could do myself to be honest.
