so i know the more connections and gear in the chain the more noise will build up... but i need a suggestion on how to eliminate it in this scenario...

: i am running my vestax turntable into my vestax mixer... then from the line out of the vestax mixer into my mackie 1604 which is hooked up to my computer via a m-audio delta 1010lt sound card.... then into ableton...
i want to be able to do some scratching type stuff/ noise mixing/ sampling etc over some beats and bass in ableton....
but the hiss is just unbearable. i dont have too much of an issue with noise when i run a mic, or a keyboard into the mackie and then into my computer...

will brand new cable get rid of this hiss... do i need to cut out the mackie? whats likely to be my problem here?

most of the hiss is probably coming from the turntable and the vestax mixer.
you could get some adapters and go straight out from the turntable into the mackie mic inputs and then line out of the mackie into your soundcard.

or if it turns out to be the mackie, then keep everything the same as before but without the mackie.

It could be CRT interference from the monitor if you're running the computer and the tables at the same time. I get this when I'm recording guitar. Pickups and styluses.. stylus... styli are basically the same thing in very different shapes.

Try recording with the screen turned off. It's a long shot but I thought I'd throw it out there.

i'll give that a shot tomorrow... i've gotten that noise with my guitar too... i didnt think about that...

i've pretty much determined its not the mackie though....

try running directing from the mixer into the comp, and then running from the comp to the speakers. Otherwise, new cables possibly. Also check for ground problems.

check ur powerboards.. and powersupply connections. Is your computer on the same board and how old is it? do u have good cables.. properly insulated

hiss or hum/buzz? could be a grounding issue?

balanced cables can cancel out pretty much all noise that a cable can pick up off of screens/radio waves etc. problem is you need both output and input to be balanced tho. Your mackie should definitely have balanced ins but not so sure about the dj mixer. balanced outs normally look like the XLR's you get on microphones ( but you can get balanced jacks )

would sound pants because some processing ( eq i think ) goes on in turntable preamps to get the signal to sound right due to the weird way in which the stylus picks up the sound. mic preamps are totally different.
