as many if you may know i am a beginner with producing, but i read on the apple forums you can only have au's in GB, and im pretty sure komplete is a vst plugin? If i buy komplete will i be able to put it in gb and if i do that, and get a different computer will i be able to put it on that too or is it a one time download like "word" and software like that?

AU is included there. It also says you can have a max of 3 installations as long as you only use one at a time.

in all honestly you shouldn't waste one of those installations on garageband. if you paid nearly a thousand bucks for komplete as a beginner, then you should be able to afford one of the stripped down versions of a decent DAW that supports VST. Logic express, Ableton intro/standard, Reaper, etc etc etc. In fact, since you really have little need for DAW instruments given that you have komplete, you should probably look into reaper.

That thought didn't even occur to me! Why is he investing that much in a huge bundle of shit he doesn't even know if he needs, while he's still using a fisher price daw? It's like buying a super high end set of golf clubs when you just started and are playing golf in your backyard.
I second the Reaper suggestion. Get that and fiddle with some free plugins to see if you even like producing. Then if you're serious about dropping dime on production gear, get nice monitors and room treatment first. Then blow it all on the big plugin bundle. Not to say that Komplete isn't useful as hell and a good deal for what you get. But it's overkill for someone who just started.
ps, don't tell people you're a Reaper user until you're a badman. Tell them you use an old version of Digital Performer instead.

Reaper is daunting when you first open it (and I opened it after prior experience with other DAWs). If you look into reaper, do not freak out that you can't do jack at first and give up immediately. I could see that happening. Be patient, give it some time. Watch some tutorials. If Reaper is just not working, I would download the free 30 day trial for Ableton. I've used Reaper, Ableton, Reason, and Logic. I'd say Ableton is the easiest for a beginner.

Fwiw, Ableton is easily the most convoluted interface out of all the DAWs I've tried.
I agree Reaper is daunting when coming from different software that's conditioned you to think in a certain way. Changing DAWs is always a hassle. But since OP is brand new, he won't have to unlearn any habits when starting to use Reaper.

It just seems really unintuitive. Having the clip launcher coupled with the mixer view seems pretty cumbersome for mixing. I don't like the layout of any of the UI elements or the UI as a whole really. Plus it's ugly as sin.
