I don't really get why people need to do this. If the two songs don't sound good together they're probably different keys so don't mix them.

A guitar tuner probably won't work tbh. I think chemical records gives the key of all the records it sells. just look it up on their site. im sure beatport and juno do too

forget the guitar tuner, you're not going to be able to detect the key of a song with that. mixed in key is decent, but is not always correct and costs money.
just play along the tune with a piano or any intstrument really and find the note that fits most, it'll be the tonic. then play scales over it to determine if it's major/minor.

+1 for mixed in key.

Fair enough you could save money by figuring it out on piano/guitar if you just want to know the odd song here or there. But for 100's maybe 1000's of songs? Just drop 'em in wait a few minutes then go mix! :W: :D

I just check the bpm of the records i buy on chemical/ whatever site has them up and pot a small post it note with it on the sleeve. you can do the same with key

mixed in key or rapid evolution (which is free ;) )

biggest misconception seems to be people thinking they convert tunes to the same key, which they dont, they just tag the tunes with the key

worth remembering they arent always 100% accurate, some tunes have key and bpm changes which can throw them off, also just because tracks might be in the same key doesnt mean they will necessarily work together

does help with organising shit though

those programs are also really useful for production as well, if youve got a huge sample collection tagging by key can save a lot of time

Yeah Mixed in Key. Never understood the importance of mixing in key though.. if you think its THAT important you should be able to tell by ear.

Play every major scale along with the tune and whichever sounds the best is the key?

And just slam the faders on tH3 dR0p.

Mixing in key is really overrated.

haha, yeh i do believe its more about the vibe than the actuall key, but if your mixing 2 simultaniously and u swap the low end over it sounds pretty shite m8.
virtual dj would be easier but i have alot of vinyl id have to turn my back on.
