So I'm just wondering what you guys do to get audio samples from saaaay, DVDs primarily. I've tried multiple DVD audio ripping programs and needless to say, they're all utter shit. Super glitchy, constant crashes, blah blah blah. If anyone could point me int he direction of a quality program that would be phenomenal. Thanks.

Play DVD on another device, record it into your audio interface.

Play the dvd in a dvd player, plug the audio out of the dvd player into the audio in of your audio interface. Record.

Get the movie from TPB ? Use video editing software to get only the audio, and slice the part you're after ?

What you plan on doing (using unclear samples) is illegal anyway, so go a step further to make the task easier

Use Audacity, set it to Stereo Mix for the import, and record directly.

DVD Decrypter, IFO mode, export only the audio stream, convert, edit to whatever you want.

I just tried this and got it to record, but the volume of the recording is very low. I can ofc crank it up in my DAW, and it sounds ok to my ears i guess, but the waveform looks seriously fucked up. Why is that, and should i be worried? Is there anyway to record to a higher volume?

My preferred choice is Soundflower directly into Ableton.

I'm also a strong supporter of Audacity. I use it to rip all my samples I've obtained from youtube

I am so confused. I cannot get Audacity to receive any audio signal whatsoever. I've got the the input coming in from my sound card but yet there's nothing... I feel like it shouldn't be this complicated. Am I missing something?

Well I'm having trouble with Audacity. It used to work perfectly when I wanted to record the Stereo mix (also called "What You Hear" on some computer soundcards) but now from time to time it tolds me that it can't record because of the input and/or sample rate of the product.

Nothing changes but sometimes it works sometimes it doesnt. If anyone has an idea..

I have been ripping samples from audio books for quite a while now, might benefit you if you're struggling still.

AVS Audio Recorder, just enable stereo mix and you're good to go

Not sure about that, but I use Audacity and it seems a bit tempromental- sometimes it won't recognise any input but close it down and re-open and it works fine...sometimes I've had to close and re-open the source of the input too (e.g. Vinyl via traktor).

Okay so even after following the steps on the video I posted, I couldn't get a signal from the Stereo Mix input. It didn't make any sense. So after fiddling around with virtually everything, I unplugged my audio interface and wah-lah, it worked. The only problem is is that the quality sounds kind of shitty. Not terrible by any means, but I was kind of hoping to get exactly what I heard initially. Any recommendations?

Unfortunately, I think that's a bit like saying 'my car engine won't work- how do I fix it' , there are a few standard things to look for (shown already in this thread) but without having a look at how you have the whole PC/soundcard/audio interface set up it's a bit hard to say.

It should be recording roughly the same quality you hear it play- are you sure you aren't using the computer mic as the audio input?

I've just plugged a jack cable from headphones output on audio interface to the recording input on the audio interface.
