Yo production crew. How about we have a thread to shoot the shit about random production shit/frustrations/thoughts/general production bullshit that deserves no thread of its own?

no wonder they call you sluggy...

but anyway, arrangement has been getting on my nerves lately. I am always improving my sound design skills. But my arrangement skills seem to be declining. My earlier songs had better arrangements but not so great sound design, and that's seemed to switch.... very aggravating.

I prefer my cheap Aerial7 headphones to my Beyer Dynamics. I know the A7s have a mid hump but the bass sounds so much better.

Oh and they look like this...

Seems like they sound as hideous as they look. :W:

Here's a random thought, Isn't there already an offtopic production thread exactly like this?

Also, I picked up an MPK61 for $305 on ebay yesterday. It'll be like another $50 shipping and hopefully I don't get raped at customs. But still a pretty sweet deal. I'm gonna do the pad sensitivity mod on them and hopefully get straight to work. It'll be so nice to finally have a physical controller for composition. In the past, the closest I've come is noodling on a guitar and then transcribing it by hand into a piano roll. Once I get technically proficient at playing, I'll be in badman mode. Plus I think it'll force me to look at theory and composition from a different angle. Hopefully I'll round out all the bits I haven't completely internalized yet. Once I hit that plateau of fluid playing, things will really open up. Then it's just a matter of working on arrangement and mixing. Got some Audio Technicas I'm about to order so hopefully that helps a bit on the mixing front too.

I never compress digital sounds. Ever. Good samples, correct levels and EQ's forever. Compression is to fix human mistakes or for artistic effect.

I agree that good samples are everything, but a little compression never hurt. The problem is most people have no idea how to compress and that's why things turn out so shitty.

Compression for bounce and glue. Compression to pull in a synth is a bit unnecessary, although when you get into modulation effects and reverb it can be useful too.

Starting to see the world as one giant song/mixdown. Like I can see fills at the end of a 16/32 bar, I see long stretches with minimal elements, dynamic parts entering leaving etc....

I have the feeling I'm going to be carted off to the loony bin real soon! :6:

200 hz snares suck dick. I slightly boost there too, but those snares where the 200 hz are boosted by 300 db sound worse than screechy brostep bass.

I hate those turns in which one can barely tell the difference between the kick and the snare.
