Are you all such quitters?

Here is a reenactment of a situation that happens to me regularly...

"hello , I'm dj x and here's some tunes I made"

"ohh you don't want to release the first 2 tunes I send you?"

"I'm never sending you tunes again"

This happens 99% of the time with producers who are in the 15-25 yo bracket.

Stop being soft shites and try harder , maybe tune # 12 or 13 is the one for me.

it knocks your confidence when you don't get replies (positive or negative) when you send people tunes

good to hear it from your perspective though, maybe i'll have to be less of a wuss in future aha

I can't speak for others but I do listen to everything sent , but only reply to stuff I genuinely like , just because the first tune didn't work doesn't mean every subsequent tune will be disregarded.

I sent you some tunes before and you never got back, I thought more that you are just not into that kind of stuff rather than your think its an actual shit tune (I hope lol) so then I kinda think to not send stuff like that cos if you didnt like the first one, why would you like the next ones.

Send regardless of feedback. Does it really hurt to send out a tune?

You miss 100% of the shots you don't take.

This an interesting convo.

I think both sides should back off a little bit.
For new producers, the most important push is when someone says something, at least a "nice" or something. It really gives confidence, makes you think, wow Bok-Bok checked out my tunes and thought they were cool, imma make some new ones...On the other hand when they send out stuff and the labelheads/djs don't say nada back, that's kinda annoying. Nakedlunch, you say you listen to everything you get sent, but reply only to those you like. That's ok on your side, but will the producer know that? No. Also some producers get back replies like "can you send me a link where i can download the X tune"...while the download link is right in the middle of the e-mail. On the other hand ppl not replying to your e-mails should just make you stronger and encourage you to make more tunes. "let them labels contact you..."

For the labelheads both night slugs and nakedlunch (but a lot of others) don't sign new artists...and if they do, they sign one like once in a blue moon and even then there's a big possibility that behind the alter-ego there are 2 well-known artists that will reveal themselves on xlr8r or w/e to create more hype. Don't get me wrong, this isn't a problem, it's their thing, so they can do whatever they want with their own label. I know signing a new artist comes with perks as he/she doesn't have the hype behind, so sales will probably not be as good etc. etc. But when new producers notice this, then tell me why they should send you new stuff, if they can also send new stuff to smaller labels which are actually interested in putting out new artists and in creating an image (hype) for the artist.

Not long ago I made an experiment where i sent out some links with some new tunes, the funny part was that the links would be available only for 1 day. I wanted to see who will actually check the e-mails by checking out who would send me an e-mail saying that the links don't work. Funnily enough bigger artists that I would have never thought replied, and people who I thought that would check out my tunes didn't...and then of course a couple of them started sending me messages after a couple of months like "these tunes are phat...blablabla", like i never sent them anything.

Sorry if i went a bit too long...just writing down my experiences as a new producer.

ay listen - if great tunes come in that are right for the label i'll sign em, whether its a new artist or whoever else. i'm really all about aesthetics like that!
but on the whole the vast majority of people will not do something good on their first attempt

do you still listen to stuff from people who've sent you bits in the past that you weren't into?

^ ridiculous experiment kuku. spend time making shit instead...

if you are emailing someone proposing that you they do something for you it had better be something good.
you are impinging on them if you're sending things that are below standard, not hard to have a listen and work out where your work stands.

kUnTs want instant gratification these days. everyone thinks they have something special but most of the kYnts wont bother to work hard and spend more time posting links and making pretend PR campaigns looking for shortcuts to a shout out on rinse.

Actually the links thing was a mistake of mine...it wasn't really thought ahead.
@bokbok good to hear that. I didn't mean to say anything against you or your label, but this is my experience with labels in general.

Very true , I had a situation where a 17yo kid sent me tunes , I asked for more and his Manager got back to me asking how many I was going to press , what kind of deal I was offering etc

I'm not going down that road of dealing with managers or people who don't even have a tangible release who have managers.

I can't feasibly get back to everyone , but if you desire something(a release) then why don't you put in the work to get it , lack of feedback should not be a deterrent from sending tunes? it doesn't seem to be for 75% of soundcloud.

Make tunes> Send to DJ's> Create hype>Labels will come.
Tried and tested.
