Coz you can make growl basses without FM or Massive; you can even make them with a subtractive synth, eg. Sylenth1

You can make them with subtractive synths, however you are extremely limited by subtractive. It's not a marketing ploy, NI are simply using the popularity of artists like Skrillex and popular known massive users (datsik, flux pavilion, 12th planet etc.) to sell their synths. I wouldn't question NI's marketing dept, they definitely know how to sell their gear.

Ive made some decent (not great, but decent) growls using Operator. Better than anything I can get out of Massive

I wanna know why Native Instruments doesn't just go ahead and make a full fledged DAW at this point. They've done everything else.

Operator is sick though.
