I started saving money so I can buy and build a computer solely for dubstep. Please tell me this is a good build and has good monitors speakers. (You might want to know a little bit on computers.)

took a look; plenty of memory and good CPU. all you need is an external soundcard & decent monitors

just remember that you're building a computer for music production not for dubstep :/

As for the computer, looks alright, just make sure that you really are going to get into music if you're spending 850+ dollars on a computer. You also need to factor in how much the software costs that you want to start out with.

Having a bunch of mediocre gear versus having less gear, but quality gear that you won't need/want to upgrade from in six months...hrm...

If you are just starting out I wouldn't frustrate myself with a second rate computer to run my DAW on just to get monitors that you'll realize aren't much different than powered PA speakers in six months. A 99 dollar pair of studio headphones will sort a beginner. If you are doing everything on the computer having a shitty computer is going to frustrate you to no end.

Nothing wrong with resampling to save CPU. I do it often just because I prefer working with audio.

I don't disagree at all, but if we are talking about spending money effectively buying a second rate computer if you don't have to isn't the best choice. First, because most people will get frustrated and want to upgrade later anyway. Second, unlike other gear old computers hold almost zero resale value.

But it is good to point out you don't need something that would run high end CG programs or some redonked out gaming rig to make music. But I think a new producer would want to be able to load some reverbs, delays and a couple instances of their synth w/o worrying about resampling constantly.

I produced on shitty computers for years and when I finally built a dedicated production desktop it was like a whole new world opened up.

Get rid of the graphics card, the Creative speakers, and that Asus sound card.

Get a motherboard with onboard video which will be more than sufficient for music production.
Why are you getting that Asus sound card? For headphones? That's crazy expensive for a soundcard without a proper interface. It's got a whole bunch of gimmicky features like Karaoke mode... plus it's around 50 cheaper on Newegg. I'd take an M-Audio Audiophile card over that. You could get the best M-Audio Delta interface which is built for music production for less than that Asus thing.

What OS do you have now? Might be able to skip that too and just use the disc you have now, unless it was an OEM install without a disc or something.

But if you get rid of all that stuff you'll have more money to spend on actual monitor speakers. At the very least something like KRK Rokit.

You don't need a 5.1 set up for making music, unless you want to go in to post production.

Maybe just get yourself a Dell, for like 400-500 bucks and then get an interface and actual monitors instead of computer speakers.

Look at the focusrite scarlett, maybe some krk's, or yamaha hs50's. These will hold you in good stead should you decide to add more things to your set up.

Yea forget the speakers & soundcard, get a decent PCI or usb soundcard designed for music production, it will be much more useful (M-Audio, Focusrite, Motu etc etc).

Also as mentioned, get some decent monitor headphones instead of some 5.1 system which will be no good for production.

Use the sound card built into you motherboard and get a cheap USB interface

If you want grunt then buy a hackintosh or apple imo.

^^ something like that or better. If you can afford a macbook pro get one. I dont hate windows but I think hackintosh/apple is very good for music software.
