Ever get Obsessive with a track?

]I assume we all can get this way about a passion we love. Sometimes when I am working on a track, especially if it is a remix competition, I get super hyper critical with my track. I think it sounds tight and then when I over play it trying to get it to sound better and better sometimes I end up getting sick of the song and disliking it. I usually get over that when I take a little brake but do any of you find yourself's getting too obsessive on a project and end up getting sick of it? Perhaps I need to stop with the idea of trying to always make it perfect. I find it a hard balance to know when to stop on a certain track and be cool with what's already on there. However I have learned a hell of a lot because of being obsessive too. Guess its just trying to find that balance.

Make a short demo of the track and give it to a friend to listen. You can move to another project and after some time return to the first with fresh ideas and ears.

Obsession is good, it's what defines the casual people that make music from the people that will be the next generation. I doubt there's a single artist or group that ever are 100% happy with a song.
It's all about taking a break - work hard on it for a bit, then put out a demo to your friends, get some critiques then go back to it a day or two later and you'll feel refreshed and your ideas will be refined.

It's totally natural to not be 100% happy with your tunes or your own musical ability for that matter. There's always going to be room for improvement, but at a certain point you just have to say fuck it and put the song out. People are going to critique your work no matter how good or bad I sounds and anything you take away from that will make you that much better.
Maybe if your too worried about how much time your spending on a track, maybe try putting a cap on it. Say 24hrs total working time or so (I mean only time spent with your daw open working on one particular song).

That's a good suggestion - I remember someone during a Q&A saying that they set themselves a goal to achieve in the studio in that day or else they'd end up never getting anything done. Also that if you're serious about producing you have to treat it like a job, so work appropriate amount of hours with someone to have done by the end of it.
For example: Today I'm going to from on this track from 12PM - 4PM and I'm going to write all of my percussive elements for the first 2 minutes of the song.

I find my best change ups and quirks are placed when listening to a semi finished track several times.
This is after the main arrangement is laid out. Intro, drop, breaks are all in place at this point.
When i run out of ideas, ill play through the song on repeat. Then just pack a bowl and listen. Ill find the parts that are stagnant and add more to it.
If you get really frustrated, move down the arrangement past what you have done and start building a new arrangement with the pre existing synths, drums, samples, ect. Then try to incorporate that back into the original track.

All the time, there's not a single track I feel is 'finished'. I'm usually happy with my arrangement, but I think my sound design / mixing is below par.
