Do I still need to make a separate subbass w this technique?

Never thought of bypassing and sending a sub OSC in Massive straight to the output. Does this mean having a subbass layer in a separate synth is unnecessary?

Its a good idea to keep your sub separate unless you want it to play the exact same notes as your midrange and share all the effects! I always keep my sub separate and clean.

You never really need a separate layer, it's just if you want the most powerful sub with full control over it. I recommend using a separate layer as it's just easier in the end, especially in regards to mixdowns. If you find out that your synth should have some fancy effect on it, it wont affect the sub as it's another layer.

It's rare that you would ever need to ADD a sub layer to your synths, if you had a saw in massive at -12 there will already be loads of sub there, so I'd cut that out then introduce just a sine sub.
I always use a separate layer. It's easier to mix, gives you more control, allowing you to program in a different sub line than your synths giving your track motion.
If all the focus is on just one synth in a down part of the track, then I'll just automate my EQ and bring back in some of the sub frequencies and not use the sine sub.
