Anyone else knows this "centroid" effect which NI Razor has built-in? I was just wondering whether there is something similar available as effects plugin so i could use it with any other sound or synthesizer. Perhaps u guys even know a workaround on how to achieve this sound by other means!? If so, please enlighten me!

I haven't seen any vst working like this, but you can achieve something similar using a bandpass filter.

thanks for the hint, but i think a bp filter wont do it. what this thing actually does is that it compresses the frequency range gradually to a certain chosen frequency until it sounds more or less like a simple sinewave when fully compressed. a bp filter would simply cut those frequencies and not create this crazy dissonance. i rather think this is a question within the realm of additive synthesis, but i'm not sure since i know very little about that.

Imo from playing around with it, it sounds more like a comb filter with huge cuts only leaving the harmonics all moving to a specific midrange freq. Put a high and low pass on that and move everything to your target. Think that might be able to do it.

Also, in theory, if you have the full version of Reaktor and Razor, you should just be able to patch into the filter and use it as an effect.

Nah it's an effect in the additive engine. If Razor had resynthesis like Alchemy you could do it pretty easily, but it won't just work on a raw audio stream.
There is however a plugin that does FFT on incoming audio and has a bunch of spectral effects similar to this called Spectrumworx.

It does some really wild effects and I guarantee you'll be able to get something similar with it after some experimentation.

yes! the overview of features indeed looks promising and one of the pictures actually has a module called "centroid" in it. killer man, thank you - ill give it a go!

I know how it's working, there is no need to teach me. I'm just giving you an alternative. You can use a frequency shifter with shift amount being increased as the bandpass filter closes, which will create much more interesting effect than bandpass filter on its own.

ive acknowledged that. this wasnt about teaching u but about getting more detailed. the frequency shifter is actually a pretty solid alternative, sounds more like the centroid without the bp filter though.
