I need some baile funk in my life

All I ever listened to were random mixes on youtube. Are there any decent comprehensive comps of that stuff that y'all would recommend?

Preferably with female vocals or instrumental but I'll take anything

maybe check out the "baile funk masters" releases on man recordings. they have another series of releaes called funk mundial but they are more like an european/U.S. interpretation of the genre.

don't know about any recent releases though...pretty much out of the loop i'm afraid

I'm the farthest from a head on this so your suggestions were awesome. Thanks :0

If you want to play the stuff everybody knows go for Man Recordings releases and the Diplo curated compilation Favela On Blast or sth like that. They're a bit old though. And new baile funk tracks are mostly shit, the producers kicked out glorious 808s and replaced them with fuckton of chopped up annoying vocals and this "um-cha-cha" sample. This is pretty much synonymous with the style

Soundcloud

It's called "Funk Ostentacao". Good documentary on it here:

Notice how no DJs playing obscure ghetto music (Nguzunguzu, Total Freedom, Massacooramaan etc) give a shit about baile funk now. Notice how there are only 4 entry searches on this blog http://davequam.wordpress.com/?s=baile+funk

What if you want to find new releases that are not shit? I don't know, maybe try hunting for CDs in Brazil? :) Or ask some friends who live in there or would like to travel. I saw Mosca drop a really good funk carioca after Bring In The Katz once. I asked him about the title and he said he'd like to know himself because he got it on CD from a taxi driver ;-)

BTW I found a baile funk sample pack on Soulseek. I could upload it so you could make your own tracks

Thanks for the offer, but I just wanna listen to it :p

I don't really mind if it's new or old. I just want steezy percussion and 808s. So old shit will do.

What's 'Funk Ostentacao'? Is that the more recent stuff you said wasn't as good?

My next girlfriend needs to be Brazilian. Those bodies. :0

Yeah, that's Funk Ostentacao, watch the documentary to know more. It's for you to decide if you like the music or not although the focus of the movie on politics, lifestyle etc. and not the quality of the tunes should raise your suspicions.

For old funk carioca check these out:
http://www.discogs.com/label/Man+Recordings
http://www.discogs.com/Various-Rio-Bail ... ter/358292
http://boomkat.com/cds/18080-diplo-fave ... le-funk-04
http://boomkat.com/cds/18081-diplo-favela-strikes-back

As you can see you missed the peak of the genre's popularity by about 8 years. Is it time for a revival now? :)

Thanks for the links, that's dope. I'm just about the tunes, I live in the Netherlands, so I was never gonna be close to it and I don't need everything to be cutting edge :p
