I am at the moment working on a pretty heavy, war-like kinda tune. My only problem is that the reverb on my snare always vanishes in the mix. Always.
I've been trying all day to mix this snare right, but with no luck.

At first I thought that it was because of what a "mess" the tune is I couldn't mix it down.

What I am going for is something like this:

The tune is pretty "messy", yet you can easily hear the reverb on the snare.

Any tips and tricks are helpful. Thanks a ton.

Why not run the reverb through a separate aux channel and work specifically with the reverb rather than the initial hit?

Holy shit all that dudes tracks are exactly the same. As for the snare thing, his tunes are pretty bare, just the heavy basses and percussion. Leaves a lot of room for the snare tail to come through. If you can't get it to happen though try using a separate sample for the snare tail and mix it differently to the actual snare body. Usually though it's just a matter of creating space in the mix for it.

EQ your reverb on a send and then compress it?

turn down pre-delay if your reverb plugin automatically has it (like mine does). that always makes my snares sound messy

you could put a real long reverb and then sidechain it. or bounce the snare with reverb and compress the whole thing to keep the tail loud. or add a bit of distortion to the reverb to make it more audible. also try eqing it.

I don't think this is what I'd aim for if I wanted audible reverb in the mix. You can hear it, but it's really in conflict with the "bass".

If you have spectrum covering bass like that, Have a more modest snare with more of its own place in the whole mix rather than behind the bass. That helps the reverbed part punch through too. If the reverb isn't making it wide enough, adding short, barely audible ping-pong delay to the reverb send will widen it up a little too helping it stand out.

I also find that slight distortion or tape saturation (very slight) on the reverb channel can bring it forward in the mix but it can sometimes make the reverb sound a bit flat.

anyway i always mono the punchy 200hz bit of the snare and have a short, bright verb on it, then on my claps/top end of the snare i have a long verb

Damn some of you guys are dicks. The dudes asking a specific question about a technique and you start taking shots at his track.

I like to use a 2-3 second tail on my reverb when the snare calls for it. I'd suggest compression after the tail like whats been mentioned. I wouldn't suggest sending the signal to your master reverb, for my tracks the snare calls for adjustments on the reverb to really make the snare shine. Try out different reverbs. I like to use ReverberateCM from computer music on snares, you can adjust the ADSR to adjust the volume of the reverb itself, im sure there are better paid for effects out there but this VST does the job.

- Dry

Yeah, dude was asking for production advice and showed someone's tune as an example. He doesn't have to take it, but people are gonna have their input. Fair play if this is the sound he's going for, but he can get something better sounding than that
