So today I installed the complete setup of the SSL desk and absolutely love it. Mixes sound huge and punchy full of warmth and character.

I need new pants now. Nice one! I've been looking into 500 series stuff. Even that is a bit cost prohibitive when the channel strips/compressors/etc cost as much as an entry level hardware synth : )

The 500 series is great so much choice. Api, shadow hills, aphex, vog, etc etc so much choice. Now these two racks are fill 500 series is the next venture after a maselec mea 2. I sometimes wish I had gone down the 500 series instead of x rack route but I grew up on ssl so know it's sound like the back of my hand

Haha...so much gear, so little time ;p I'd like to get a rackmount 500 series box and get a nice compressor and few channels of EQ for character.

The great thing about these rack mount module units is you can custom build your rack. You can build tailored to your sound over time as well. Start with a lunchbox £360 and add a £500 eq then next month a compressor.

I bet, I had a fiddle on a desk a while back, wasn't doing anything serious but could tell I would love to get down on a mix with a nice desk.

There's also lots of DIY stuff for the 500 and 51X (a lunchbox on steroids) format, if you're into this kind of thing. Might save some $ too.

I'm sure I saw one on ebay a while ago buy now for £360 official api one. There's some other great little ones out there. I saw 3 unit one in a 1u 19inch rack one. If I were to go down the 500 series route id definitely start with a small 3 unit one and build up gradually, nothing worse than having all that rack space for modules and nothing in them

A new 6 slot box from Lindell Audio, "506 Power", just got released. It retails for $299 in the US, not sure how much in Europe. Looks a it might be one of the cheapest ways to get into this format. They also have 3 modules, a mic pre with 2 band eq, comp (1176 style) and eq (pultec style). These also retail at $299 iirc.

Those lindell prices look pretty decent. Ill have to look into that.
