Ok i need help with making a generic movie Horn sound. Such as the one in inception Heres a link to button that plays it.http://inception.davepedu.com/

For my first real attempt to make full out heavy dubstep song I want it to be revolved around an idea. So i decided to pick a movie. The newest movie comming out that i think is going to be crazy good and a hit is Pacific rim. In the beginning of this video theres a very metallic sound with a long attack. Im trying to recreate that for part of the song and i have other things im going to put in, such as movie vocals and a glados voice im going to make melodyne. The movie comes out in over a months time and would want to try finish it then.

I need help with looking for a sample of a deep horn or string(maybe a library). Then ill resample it a couple times to get that gritty bassy sound like in the movie. If i cant then ill just have to work around with massive or fm8 with a bright saw patch and go from there.

If you know any libraries with sounds very cenematic samples or have an idea to make a a gritty sound it would be much appreciated. After its done ill release the full project and presets with it. :4: I really want to make a good atempt at a first good song and spend awhile perfecting it any help would be awesome!

Heres the video with the metallic string/horn i was talking about. Starts at 0:07, 0:24, 0:54, 1:48, 2:06, 2:26

A ships horn can sound good if you pitch it down. Maybe use a granular synth too and mess it up a bit.

Thanks, ill look at that now and i made a patch in massive on my first try and was pretty big. Didnt resample it yet though. Theres no Eq and just a couple fx in a chain. Made it mono, sounded a lot better than stereo

A pitched down brass sample could work too?

Couple of layered oscillators in Massive, one +0 and two at +12. Really doesn't matter what you choose, start with saws and then progress to the meatier/distorted wavetables.
Sine LFO on the wavetable positions and on the cutoff of a low pass + scream filter.
Distortion in Massive.
The LFO rate really controls how groan-y the sound is, tweak it to suit your note length, i.e. make it faster if you want short notes or slower if you want longer droney notes like I did.
You want the filters to open up the sound, similar to how the horn sounds used in soundtracks like you posted open up and become more aggressive.

Then sent the sound to a large reverb + simple ping-pong delay channels, sent the delay slightly to the reverb too.
This way you get a full clean growl, the full reverb and a combo of clean delay + reverbed delay.

Got it, sort did the same but i put did a bit of stuff differently. Its turning out pretty good. I got the metallic part i want and now i just got to modulate it a bit more. I have comb and a double notch for my filters but no modulaion. Ill ether use the envelop or the lfo for that. Ill post a project file and presets. Its a pritty gnarly bass now.

Pretty easy took me like 5 minutes to do 8) google is your friend! I used melodyne and just took out bad pitches and moved vocals up two semi tones. You can use any text to speaker to make whatever vocals. I made one before this saying Comensing the drop in three, two, one Goodbye :Q:
