Bass Triggering/Arrangement Question

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum and I'm not really new to Dubstep production but i just had a few questions about how you guys build your basslines and drops. I use Ableton Live and im pretty familiar with it but there are just so many ways you can approach drop arrangements. What I have been doing is loading up a new channel with every bass patch i use on it and building drops step by step switching to different bass sounds that way. This is nice and everything so you can process and play out different bass sounds individually, but the process of creating a full drop takes a great amount of time with this method.
I'm basically just wondering if their are any other ways to go about creating a bassline with multiple mid range sounds without having to play each sound at once. i heard about midi triggering and stuff in drum racks but i dont know much about that or how i would approach resampling. If you guys could just explain how you do quick edits and switches between patches that would be dope. I'm sorry if i wasn't clear enough but i tried explaining it the best i could. thanks!
