These two are definitely in my eyes two off the best producers i have ever had the pleasure of listening too. They capture raw emotion and feelings into each one off there productions, i'm definitely a huge fan. If you're not familiar with their work have a listen, i promise you wont be disapointed.





There melodic synth and string lines are what always draw me in, the sort of music you feel as well as just hear, amazing. These two as well as a few others deserve a lot more recognition for what they're doing, a hell off a lot more.

My question is simply, especially on that Sorrow track above, how do they make the drums so clean? I mean i know a lot about processing drums (not meaning to sound cocky) but a lot of people tell me mine sound clean, but Sorrows are on another level, i just don't understand what magic he's casting. I know that they use obscure drum hits and off beat or wonky rhythms, but i'm more interested in the sound. I chop my drums up tight, make sure there's room for everything, compress, eq, dig out frequencies, but still not where they want to be. Sorrow's sound almost metallic like he's layering textures in over the kick drums.

Also want to point out that i'm by no means trying to copy Sorrow, just interested in what you guys have to say about his processing.

sounds to me like there are granular samples being modulated in between beats to give it that shuffling movement, also with the "eskmo" clap, a good clap layered with a tree branch being broken sample, also granulized.

Oh man i love those guys just ordered the dreamstone LP yesterday also check submerse he has an interesting sound going on too.

I believe most of it is about the mix on the drums, since they mostly have loads of mids and all the bass stuff is going on in the sub / low mids, with some sort of sidechain to it usually. Other than that, I guess he does a lot of field recording with a good mic and layers the shit out of those recordings using them as hats and transients and the likes (try putting another layer of hats ontop of your actual hihats with a HP on it, sounds great often). and i'd also guess he builds those drum samples by layering / sequencing field recordings in different ways. Well at least that's what it sounds like to me.

The first track is just.. holy shit. Makes me delete everything I made in the past and try again.
Also the drums sound so clean because there is not so much elements in the track.

What did he do with the sub up there?

adding harmonics and putting it on glide? sounds like a low passed reece is added to
