[VIDEO] Huxley makes a tune in 10mins

Huxley has been making some of the UK's best house and garage music for a while. He's heavily influenced by the rough swing of artists like MK and Groove Chronicles, but his tracks have picked up notable support on the European house circuit, with his releases for Hypercolour proving particularly popular. On this episode of Against the Clock, he rushes through the track's basic elements and manages to make something that builds, drops and breaks down across three minutes. It's rare that people manage to make something this well-structured within the time limit, but we guess Huxley isn't your average producer.

Nothing new, nothing fancy. But damn he knows what he's doing... Props for making something like that on 10 minutes even with presets!
I sincerly hope that not that many people are gonna make that kind of house, because the 909 is starting to get boring... People need to find some twists on those drumsounds! (I admit I use them 90procent of the time)

Somebody got some cool processing tips that you find working pretty good for 909/808 drums... (Or layering tips!)
I like too layer a 707 kick with a (enveloped) low passed 909 kick!
And an enveloped bandpass sounds good on the open hihat!

Yeah tbh huxley hardly pushes the boat out on tune progression- he knos how to make a catchy bassline though- which i spose is all you need.

i dont like the fact that he uses ready loops... yeah i know it's a time challenge but reckon he uses them in his regular tracks as well. you're supposed to make everything yourself

Nah.. Don't you ever use percussive loops yourself?

^no unless i change them drastically (usually breaks are the closest thing). I dont understand why you would want to disable yourself from making something really different.

I don't know I still love all the 909 cymbals... and the kick.. you know what I love all of the 909 sounds. Can't beat a classic.

I'm always trying to do something new or complex melodically. This just shows that some of the best tunes are simple ideas. Don't want to sound cheese but this reminds me of the whole KISS thing.

If I was doing the challenge I would have done it exactly the same. Just classic simple ideas I know will work.

I get peoples annoyance with the whole loop thing. Look at Avicii... He layers a kick with a loop. Adds a cheesy as fuck melody on a preset sound then puts in some vocals and gets a number one. I wouldn't really call someone who dose that a producer, its more like he is playing Dance Ejay.

I like to work quick and not to lose time at something time consuming as letting your percussive elements fit each other! So yes, I use a lot lf loops! Off course I process them and normally there's nobody in the world who would recognize a specific drumloop... I tend to hide them in my other percussive elements!

But I do use them a lot and I really don't mind! It's my form of being creative with music, I just love to sample! (And yes, I think using loops is a form of sampling)

Nothing wrong with loops if you make them work in your own style.

Same goes with presets TBH.

Yea, but only thing I would change about this one is the string add some progression on there.
