I'm currently studying at uni n i have a final major to complete, which is selling an E.P and creating a label to do so (but that's my question).

I feel i have thoroughly crawled through the internet looking for answers n so far i have heard of CDbaby n itunes do it at a cost though i'm just looking for somewhere for free where i can sell my music and hopefully pass this assignment.

Also, how much would i sell a 3 track E.P at? and how much each single? i've seen on iTunes once again at around 49p but then i see on other forums people are selling beats for like £100's?!?!

and finally... do i really need to set up a label to sell my tracks? i understand the mechanical royalties and sort numbers and what not. I'm really just no good with researching things i'd rather here it straight from the horses gob! And so far i've done alright but i need to start pushing myself out there now.

I dunno the answer to your question, but just out of interest, what degree are you studying and at which uni?

You don't need to form a label, you can just whack your beats on soundcloud. Dunno, a lot of people starting out have the option of "Pay What You Like" and see if you make any p off that.

If you really think people should be paying for your stuff though, I'd be hard pushed to charge more than 99p for a track. We charge 75p a track, and that's fully mastered, etc.

Also, just checked out some of your tunes man, not bad at all. Always nice to see some producers in Birmingham too, big up.

I study Popular music & practise at South birmingham college digbeth it's a HND so it is 3/4 of a degree and now i'm heading to Wolverhampton in september... Yeee i know i should know all this but i haven't taken greatly to the business side.

That's a reasonable price 75p (don't get me wrong i wasn't thinking hundreds n thousands) i'm looking for standard pricing and from what i've seen with other artist in a much better position i'm in, but for now it is for a uni project, it has only just dawned on me about name your own price as i have done it before now. (heat of the moment when it comes to work i just go blank)


I master my tracks myself to the best quality standard i'm capable of, let us know what you think critically when you get the chance.

Are there any other ways/sites without an initial cost that you guys know about?

I have a load of other tracks ready to be pushed to, which i must admit at getting better n better man!
I'm working on that trap style at the moment, it's the variety that i wanna push

You can sell through Juno and Digital Tunes for no initial cost, just takes a little longer to set up (or did when I started).

But yeah, imo, I'd probs advise 75p-99p a track, with around a 15-25% per tune decrease if you buy the whole release (if selling multiple tune releases that is)

Well i'll be doing a 3 track garage E.P (the irony in the dubstep forum, i'm currently waiting to be accepted on the future garage forum)

so i'm assuming £2.97 to begin with then £1.35 with the %15 decrease, correct me if i'm wrong?

My stuff is cheaper on bandcamp than it is anywhere else anyway, so I'd say go for it. Try to use it as an incentive to go through bandcamp, as the % earned is much higher than in other shops.

Large ups man! I do appreciate the feedback, it's for a uni project for now and ye like you stated it does get my name out there a little further, which will then lead to sales in the end, hopefully anyway.
I do put a lot of free downloads out anyway man, it's just a 3 track garage E.P that i'll be selling plus i'm already working on an album which will be free.
In the end by the time i have a healthy back catalogue of stuff people will probably want to pay and support artists in the scene which is what i do and done even if it is name your own price, a couple quid ain't gonna hurt but then admittedly when the pockets had a hole in it n i want a track n it's there for free then why not.

I'm aware i ain't gonna be on the "Jay Z" wage from a 3 track e.p that i'm selling on bandcamp haha! so no offence taken

But.... If like my chill stuff and you have £3 then give us a sale i can get a batch of backy for your humble sale and opinion haha! Oh.. and for the other... a twix!

Seriously though, I would much rather pay you with chocolate than money
