My name is Comprodox and I produce dubstep under the name d.i.d with a really good friend of mine. I'm slightly curious as to why it seems that most dubstep producers tend to associate fl studio users with amateur artists? Can anyone please shed some light on this subject for me? It would be highly appreciated.

It's not "most dubstep producers" who hate on FL. Most dubstep producers have used, or still use FL.

FL's bad rep is a left-over from when it genuinely wasn't a proper DAW, back in versions 1 to 5 ish. It has gradually evolved in to being a proper DAW.

I'd guess at least 35%, if not 50% of early dubstep was made in FL. Old versions of Reason are probably responsible for a slightly smaller but still significant percentage.

Skream, Benga, Kromestar, Heny G, Lost, Silkie, Cessman, JazzyJazzy/J.Tijn, etc etc etc. Bare brostep producers. Many people rock it.

If you built the exact same track in FL and Reaper (for instance) using only VST and VSTi plugins (no program-specific stock/in-built processing) then bounce both tunes at the exact same level, the waveforms will be identical.

In this day and age, the only differences between DAWs are their workflow and stock/built-in plugins and routing, e.g the mixer. This is what will actually impact you; not sound quality (even if it was an issue - which it's not)

People who diss FL probably do so because they don't like it's layout or workflow. This is the only valid reason for dissing any DAW.

Mostly true although randomizing inside of the vsts (phase probably) and slight differences in interpolation/dithering algorithms will lead to different waveforms from each DAW. Just pointing out completely useless facts.

Also the panning laws might be different.

It's probably because most ppl are assumed to be cracking it.

it's not really the daw it's the perceived average user that gives fl the "bad rap"

I personally just don't like it, but it is still perfectly functional.

All these replies make sense. Thanks for clearing that up. Fl studio is a pretty reliable DAW for me, so that was a nagging question in my mind.

I personally dont like having to map things to the mixer.

On top of that, i dont know how to duplicate a synth and a mixer channel at the same time. AFAIK you have to save the mixer channel then load it on the next one. Whereas in logic you only have to press "command + D"

So simple workflow things like that are the reason im not into FL.

That makes sense mut3. I started with fl many many years ago so I'm probably just used to doing the extra work.

I'm pretty much new so I don't even know what the hell a big up is. I wanted to show a valid example of what fl is capable of and what I was able to create with it. Not trying to spam anyone.

Just realize that this is a production forum.
What give you the idea none of us know what FL can do.
