So About This New War On Thursday...
Soon Syria will join Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Somalia, and ??? as a country in which the U.S. military has purposefully killed people and destroyed infrastructure since 9/11. We know this because sources say it will happen on
"Thursday."
Earlier this week Secretary of State John Kerry
announced that evidence "strongly indicates" that Syrian president Bashar al-Assad used chemical weapons to murder his citizens. To address this "moral obscenity," the U.S. will not bomb the places where the chemical weapons exist, as
one government source notes, "that is a hairy business." Most likely the bombs will strike other military targets.
Voices across the administration urging no action have all but silenced. But, at the other extreme of military options, a sustained air campaign designed to decapitate the leadership and allow rebels to topple the regime, also has been rejected.
So what is the objective of these strikes?
The Times says they're "To deter and degrade" the ability of Assad's forces to use chemical weapons. Kind of like when
we bombed Kosovo without U.N. approval? When we did something
"illegal, yet legitimate?" Maybe,
not really.
Or maybe it'll be like
Iraq in 1998?
Maybe!
Again, if bombing doesn't "deter" Assad from using CW again, then what options does the US have? - deeper and deeper it goes.— GregorydJohnsen (@gregorydjohnsen) August 27, 2013
Bet initial cruise missiles try killing Assad, like NATO did 1st night in Libya re Qaddafi. On pretext of "degrading command and control."— Micah Zenko (@MicahZenko) August 27, 2013
Will we try and kill Assad quickly? How long will the bombing last? What will happen to the
refugees streaming into Turkey? What exactly are we trying to accomplish?
Anyway, the bombing will probably
start on Thursday.
Even though the last link is a bit of satire...
Yes: shit's fucked up in Syria.
Yes: something needs to be done.
No: this isn't it.

Dunno, some nice bombs might do the trick. Just don't overdo it.

The US has been wanting a war with Syria for ages and is using this as an excuse.
Hell when I was in Iraq I was on the Syrian border for quite some time. A lot of the insurgents we were fighting were coming across their border, attacking and then returning.
Most of the people I served with were calling this about 10 years ago.
Frankly for once it'd be nice if we didn't play world police and let the UN intervene, or leave them to their own fucking business.
But...

seems inevitable at this point even if the claims of chemical weapon attacks goes unsubstantiated.
The funny part is the US is siding with Al Qaeda on this one.
Oh and recently declassified CIA documents showed that the US condoned Saddam using chemical weapons against Iran.

Wonderful world we live in ain't it?

The only thing this makes me think of is Netanyahu frenetically masturbating while watching FOX news.
Makes my heart ache to hear European PMs talk about "punishment" like it's a more valuable reason to go to war than protecting civilians, even more so when the UN inquiry isn't over yet. This fucking holier-than-thou attitude didn't really help anyone in Libya

No I'm not blaming the Taliban.
The US are using everything as an excuse to go to war.
It's their thing.
The Taliban remark was actually a bad joke relating back to 9/11 and a comedy show on the radio.
Some guy phoning ppl and commenting on bombing them and then yelling TALIBAN!!! and hanging up.

So is there any actual evidence stating who is responsible? I've read that the citizens are blaming each other, and the USA are now blaming the government.

Double standards with everyone having their panties in a twist over chemical weapons, not to mention El-Assad would have to be the dumbest fuck in the middle east, he KNOWS a chemical attack would automatically set everyone against him.

I'm no military expert, but as soon as people start shooting each other in the head en masse and launching
missiles; that's a war to me.
I'm a pacifist, but it's a little late for that now.

its all very confusing to my pretty stupid self
why would assad use chemical weapons unless he's a complete moron? he's already winning and obama's said a load of times that that would be a red line for military intervention.
so its either the rebels launching a chemical attack in order to get american assistance like what they got in libya or (and i realise i sound like a conspiracy theorist nut here) it's the cia/arms companies who've stage managed it so america has a pretext for war idk.

tbh on britain's part it all seems like a desperate desire to stay relevant on the international stage, just hague playing macho soldiers- which would be alright if it didn't involve sending thousands of young men to their deaths.
