The Detuned flangy thing or the comby low growl.

That is a difficult sound for me, but I can try to remake it. Give me like a few hours and I will come back with the result.

Did you try using the frequency shifter in addition to the comb filter? with a 40-60% wet

Sounds similar to the sound that starts at 0:27 in this track:

More evidence that Zomboy copies off Skrillex lawl

Hmm definitely sounds like square waves to me, use a few squares and have a slight chorus, also there seems to be a bandpass in there too giving it the hollow sound. Mess around with comb filters and flangers too, resampling and distorting a bandpass each time can give you that hollow formant kinda tone.

Guys guys guys! I think I made a discovery! Open up massive and use the "Carbon" wave table with the wave table position all the way to the left. Sound familiar?;)

Now just gotta work out how to process it.

Short delay on parralel track.

Scream filter.

Trying but it doesn't sound quite the same. The bass in the track seems more like the volume is automated rather than a filter.

Nah, more focused on the timbre anyways.

Blah. You know what sucks? When you've made stuff like this before it got "popular" and thrown it out.

I've accidentally mushed up sounds like this before they got way popular, i always threw them out because they sounded weird. Now i wish i hadn't.

From as well as i can remember. Its a square wave with a lot of thickness and saturation, more choppy than wobbly.
Lots of voices too. The reason it sounds so powerful is because there is a waveform of the similar type on the off key, so for example. Osc 1 pitch - 7.00, Osc 2 pitch - 5.00 Osc 3 pitch - 0.00
It makes it noticeably thick.

Theres probably a low pitched formant in there somewhere, with loads of ring modulation on it. Ring modulation is very very good for high pitch sounding stuff. Phasing and flanging also attributes.

Mostly though, this sound can be simply made, but the trick is getting it thick. Any saw wave formant will sound like this, but it will sound lame and powerless in your track. Try to beef it up, i'll experiment in the morning.

Zomboy Sound - Crazy Drop

Hey dudes,

I've been listening to the new Zomboy track "Terror Squad" - it's pretty awesome.

Soundcloud

Anyone know what that sound is comprised of in the main breakdown around 1:10?

Squares? Lots of low decay reverb? Imaging voices? Overdrive? I've been trying to get a similar sound and I'm curious how you guys would go about recreating that synth.

I'm in reason 7 currently but i can usually pull the ideas from descriptions of NI Massive synths and what not, however you want to try describe it is jam xD

Thanks in advance dudes!

V

I've been trying to get this sound too.

I'm actually in reason 7 so i can't tell you what massive parameters to use but i've come pretty close with the following:

It's gotta be multiple square oscs for sure.

I've been messing with 2 square*4 waves with no motion through the wavetable except for a modulator that drops the index over time as well as the pitch at about half the rate the index drops.

I think it's actually a chord being repeated, i've been using F# and C#.

It's choppy, just draw in the notes and raise the attack of your amp envs a ton to get the wobble-esque feel.

Voices for thickness, i'm doing 16 currently.

A big part I've found that helps is dropping on a very low decay reverb first after the voices, and only then distorting the reverberated sound, high amts of overdrive with tons of tone. Then after voices->reverb->overdrive drop another reverb for more thickness, maybe a plate with longer decay and like 20% dry/wet.

Eqing is neccesary to lower the mids and bring out the highs.

Someone mentioned a bandpass for that hollow feel, I feel like this should help too but I'm not currently doing it, cant get it to sound right.

I've come pretty close with this, but it's just not as silky smooth as the zomboy one, let me know if you guys have any luck xD
