Kicks (Not as clean as I want them to sound...)

So,

I am pretty sure I have every sample pack under the sun, free ones, some bought ones, etc.

No matter how much EQing, compression, processing, etc. I can not get them to sound as clean as the ones in the beginning of this remix (http://soundcloud.com/boomboxcartel/kni ... x-crtl-wtf). I think my main problem is every sample pack I have, there is some sort of processing done on them, the only kick I can get close to sounding like that is a basic 707 kick.

I have tried layering kicks, lows, mids, and highs. But I just can't get something close to that kick. Where it is clean, really thumpy, with a slightly clicky attack.

Does anyone have any suggestions on different sample packs to check out as a starting point or some different ways to go about getting them to sound so clean?

Try using less processing (e.g. over compression can actually harm the sound of your drums), or try synthesising the kick yourself.

Maybe synthesizing is the way to go since I'm so picky about how clean they sound.

Maybe the kicks in that track don't sound that clear without the other elements in the track.

You're right, they could sound completely different and are being masked my the tail of the snare or something.

I always catch myself being so picky.

909 kick, boost the bottom end a bit below 80hz, low shelf eq. cut around 200hz using a parametirc and then boost the pop around 500 - 750hz.
