Sub bass question

HEy guys!

Sub bass question over here. I have a track where I have a good harmony with a subbbass and a melody on top of that, but there is a problem with the subbass and that is: it moves quite a range between notes and i tried having it playing at the first octave, but the problem with that is there are a few notes that go up to a range which is above my hi-cut and it sounds wrong cause of that( i have that cut coz dont wanna mud up my mix), but if I take it an octave lower the first note seems to be so low that the drop looses its weitght, atleast on my 5.1 lg soundsoundsystem coz it is hitting around 37-40hz). How should I go about making a sub for this drop? Maybe I should trash the stuff we written for it and use a tail of an 808? Or should I try to have it play both octaves and layer it? If so is there anything I should do apart from cutting them so they go well together?

Thanks in advance :)

Bests,
Alex

a sine probably wont mud up your mix any way being like 1 frequency.

Automate your filter to move when the notes in question hit?

I had a square/sine with a grain of distortion as sub lowpassed round 100, but now replaced it with a pure sine(not soo much upper harmonics, but atleast the mix is clean and the sub is okay with the kick ducking it with SC) thanks for the ideas guys :)
