Something interesting though, seriously. Why would people look at a video otherwise? Something creative, original, it doesn't have to be any specific theme as long as people think 'that was actually really interesting, I'm glad I watched it'.

Having it reflect the music helps, too, so as mentioned before bro and tear out needs bare willies everywhere

on a serious note: some guy made a clip for Badawi - El Topo out of some BBC Nature documentary about deep sea fish. the guy edited a shot of a sting ray and it is imho still the best "dubstep clip" out there.

depends entirely on the tune. i think it's a shit question to ask what do i expect to see in a "genre here" video

I think is a stupid question as well, but here I am, replying. Also, if it's for marketing research purposes, then I think it's probably for bro-shit. But, just in case I am wrong.

It depends 100% on the tune, if you've ever worked on a music video you would know that. Plus, the good thing of the usual dubstep tune structure is that it gives you "time" to ammend it to a narrative dramatic structure. So I guess you/everyone should start from there. With a solid idea and a clear script. You can go experimental as well, but it would refer to the same structure. People looks for identification, in any level.

Now, if youre going to make a video according to what the audience wants to see, ie. Willies, girls, fences, squids, 80's heavy metal dudes pucking - etc, then youll probably end with a crap, empty video.

So, I dont think I answered your question, but again I still think it is stupid. Though hopefully I helped.
