The moment I clicked sidechain button, that happened.
Now a weird loud clicky sound is coming out of my daw (don't wanna ctrlaltdelete it cuz I was doing something important).

And yes I also like that cpu meter in the top right corner.
EDIT: Is my cpu damaged after this? :(

i've had this happen before. just make sure you ctrl-S asap, don't worry about saving your project in fucked up glitch mode that doesn't happen. restart ableton.

That happened to me too, I was mixing drums I think and while drums were playing, out of curiosity I pressed the sidechain button... holy fuck I had my headphones maxed out and the drums were playing at like -12db and it was almost loud for me AND A FUCKING WALL OF 400DB DISTORTED WHITE NOISE DRUMS JUST FUCKING RAPED MY EARS HOLY FUCK

Just press the sidechain button again to disable it.

Ableton went "not responding" mode after I attempted to press anything. I've clicked on the cpu meter for some reason. :6:

And this thread, ladies and gentlemen, is why you *always* keep a hard limiter at 0db threshold and no gain last on your master channel. Always.

I hadn't thought of that and it's not bad advice.

I learned this lesson the hard way with an errant synth going into maximum feedback from me catching the filter feedback knob with a button lock trackball mouse.

I now keep a limiter on the master while I'm doing sound design work or experimenting. I take it off when I'm mixing down.

Of course I took them off. It took me like 1/5 of a second to take them off (reflexes).

I fed back a desk with my buddy, both of us with headphones on, we both literally threw the headphones across the room. Like taking them off was not enough, had to get them far far away.
