sounds like theyve boosted around 300hz a bit, but thats 100% the source sample.
key to trap drums is making them 10 times louder than all other elements

Imo that snare is annoying as fuck, being right in my ears like that. It's pretty obvious it's a generic hip hop/trap snare with excessive amounts of stereo separation, you can tell by the right side being more present than the left. If you're on FL then Fruity stereo shaper preset 'stereoise 3' should get a similar effect.

How about for Ableton? Do I need a different plugin or is there something in Ableton that will suffice?

no worries dude. like i said from what i can hear, they've just boosted around 300hz a bit to make it sound more notey.
its a good sample tho, not really much you need to do with it. dont make it mono, half the weight of it comes from the wideness.
best tip i can give for drums like that: dont compress them at all.

Thanks again man.
Compression ruins the dynamic's right? I have been compressing my snares just like that sample lately, so I should stop? Also have been compressing my claps as well.

No no no, I was wrong. Use STEREO DELAY to get that effect. (Haas effect).

Compression doesn't ruin dynamics, it just alters them. The quality and usefulness of the compression are dependant on the producer and the experience he/she has with compressors. Don't stop compressing things, just learn how and when to use it.
Also, you can sometimes limit drum samples (be VERY careful when doing this) so that excessive amounts of attack are lopped off the top of the sample to create room in the mix. Light sidechaining can also help with this.

So say I had a clap with a really high peak I could use the limiter to sort of 'chop' the peak of it off.
Thanks for the tips!
