Good external sample manipulation software

I'm quite happy with simply chopping/stretching/repitching in Ableton most of the time, but I've personally found the way Ableton warps things to be a bit "..ehh" sometimes, and doesn't fit at all with what I want. Simpler and Sampler aren't precisely accurate either because of the traditional way they slow down and pitch things.

So I'd like to supplement Ableton with an external sample manipulation program, which I can just drag into Ableton once I've finished. What's a good recommendation for such a program, that produces very clear and reasonable results?

Spear is cool, but not particularly accurate.
Someone posted a program called hourglass in the reese bass thread, it is a really cool granular thingy.

Audacity is free and it is great.
You could buy harmor and run it inside of Ableton, I really like it for resampling and manipulation.

Audio editing in ableton is shite. Don't send hate, I'm impervious.

What version of soundforge? Is there vst support in there/in your version?

I have Sound Forge Pro 10. There is VST support and the time stretching is pretty good in it. It's a very handy audio tool; I use it for mastering, re-edits, making mp3's, chopping audio, recording off of the internet etc.

Also used Wavelab for years while I was working in internet radio. That was the studio's editor of choice back then.

Used to use cool edit back in the day. LOVED IT. I have my old 90's pc that I use as a foot rest, I bet I've got all my old stuff on there.
