scratching in non hip-hop mixes

ive been enjoying turntablism for the past 2 1/2 months, but im curious how you guys would incorporate it musically in sets targeted at the average person who dosent really understand scratching (or just scratching in hon hip-hip/rap mixes)- i know i should treat cuts as a seasoning but what else would you recommend from what youve seen/ past experience? thanks for helping a newb!
