What is the difference between these two speakers:

KRK ROKIT 8 G2

and

KRK ROKIT 6 G2

Is there a big different in these models? My friend said go with the G2 generation instead of the G3 gen because overall the G2 were better. Now it comes down to whether I should get the 6 inch or the 8 inch. Why are the 8 inch better than the 6inch? Is there a big difference in the speakers?

Please give me a detailed description cheers :)

A thread about making a monitor choice should never have "QUICK REPLY!" in the title. You should take your time and do some proper research. If your only 2 options are both Rokits, you obviously haven't dug deep enough yet.

What would you recommend and why?

Quick search.

From that page of results, you'll see lotsa love for Equators. They've gotten pretty positive reviews all over the place. There's also budget Adams, Events, etc. Do some googling. There's been tons of monitor threads on DSF alone lately. Let alone gearslutz, music tech sites, etc.

Basically, don't be lazy. Educate yourself on what you should consider when choosing a monitor. Then read some reviews on the options in your price range. There's more to it than just the speakers, your interface, environment, even stands will all affect the quality of your monitoring chain. There's no quick and dirty option to choosing the right gear unless you wanna end up with unsatisfactory results.

Thank you! You have been such a big help. I defiantly agree with you, I should take the time to do solid research before purchasing any musical equipment. I have a couple more questions. Do you prefer monitor stands or monitor pads and why? I don't know if I can afford any of the really good speakers like Adam, Equator or Fostex my budget is only $600 and for one of those speakers it's like $800. Could you link me some good speakers around my price range that I can look into? Thanks!

Equator D5s are cheap as fuck and will outclass anything else in the price range. They're light on bass like you'd expect from a 5" speaker but they make up for it in mid detail. The D8's just came out and naturally have more low end extension due to their 8" drivers. Fair bit more expensive though. Might be something worth saving for.

The Adam F series was what I was referring to. They're cheaper than their AX line.

Don't forget some DIY acoustic panels and a decent interface.

Sweet thanks again. I don't think I have a need for an interface right now because I am not plugging any microphones or drums into it so I think I might go with a cheap one that will allow me just to plug my monitors into. Unless the interfaces improves something I am not aware of.

You should be concerned with the DAC, which is responsible for converting digital audio to analogue and passing it to your speakers. A shitty DAC into good speakers will still sound shitty. You'll save some money since you don't need to record any inputs. There are interfaces that cater to your situation; Nice convertors, solid drivers, with a focus on outputs.

What does a DAC do and how can it help me? Does it pretty much make it so when you export it makes your song higher quality and more accurate? Or does it make it so the play back of your speakers or headphones are higher quality if so then what's the point of having a sound card if a DAC does the same thing? (This may be a stupid question but I think you understand, you were a noob once too lol.)

This one. The DAC in a nice interface will sound better than the cheap one in your computer's onboard soundcard.

NoJeezus: I got Reaper open but all I've done is listened to this 4 bar loop a bunch of times. It's so dope that I'm too stunned to develop it further. :?

I'll turn on my MPK just for you though.
