KRK 10S vs 12S (subwoofers) + Room treatment help!

MOD EDIT - Have merged these two threads together as they share a common goal.
1) Hey, I am buying a KRK sub woofer to go with my KRK 8 monitors and was wondering if I should get the 10 or 12 subwoofer. What's the difference between them? Is the 12 worth having over the 10? Thank you
2) I just ordered my KRK rokit 8 speakers along with a sub woofer and was wondering what kind of pads I need for my walls. I know nothing about acoustics, pads, bass traps etc. So if you could educate me on them that would be great! Could you also recommend me some good ones to buy, thanks

What size room have you got? is there lots of furniture? is it quite reflective? (can you hear much reverb?)
These are the questions you have to ask as every room is different and will need to be treated according to it's needs (as well as the monitors)
However that said it seems you are going to be putting a lot of bass in there with that set up so I would focus on getting the low-end section covered first and then build from there.
I use the GIK acoustics myself they offer high quality aren't the most expensive on the planet (more than the foamy auralex stuff but this is designed for proper broadband treatment not just sucking out the high end) They also offer a lot of advice and have steered me in the right direction. Just fire them an email and give them the info of your room etc and they'll help you out.
I would go for something like the GIK 244 panels for your first reflection points L & R first of all. that will tighten up your stereo image, help with low end and offer some absorption for higher frequencies (just to a lesser degree as it focuses on low end) These can be bought for about £150 but are well worth the investment.
Again hit them up on their website for more info

Thanks so much, I will totally do that! Could you send me a link where I can read more about this kinda stuff. I don't fully understand what all the different panels and pads exactly do and are for. Cheers

With 8" cones on the Rokit unless you're in a large studio sized room I doubt you'll even need that sub. So first on my list would be to return the sub and save some cash.
Every KRK I have heard is already bass heavy in terms of response anyway, adding a sub to that is only going to make the sound a mess. You're kidding yourself if you think sticking up a few pads on the wall will solve that.
Ideally you want to buy some monitors, listen to them in your room to figure out how the room reacts to sound, THEN consider treatment, sub, placements, etc. In my opinion.
You might find your room is mad reflective towards the rear, so when you're stood/sat at the back you can't even hear individual notes under 100hz and the whole track is frequency masked. You might find that happens WHERE YOU SIT. You might find the opposite - it might be completely dead from 30hz to 100hz and you're struggling to pick out your subs from your kicks without crazy EQ curves that sound whack when you listen on headphones/other systems.
A bit bonkers ordering a sub before even listening to a set of monitors in your room, all in my incredibly humble opinion, mind.

My room is pretty small with a lot of windows. Like Capture pt said I don't really need the sub woofer if I have a small room, so I will probably end up cancelling the order.
When I get my monitors what should my plan be? I am going to first set them up using the equilateral triangle technique. Then when it comes down to listening and seeing if you need any pads I am not experienced at all with that and don't really know what to do :\.

Thanks, I will do that. Once I set up my monitors how do I listen and spot the things I need to change?

move around the room, sit in different places, just listen really. you'll soon hear what corner of the room sounds like you're in a nightclub with function1 bassbins but no tweeters and what corner sounds like you're in your mates ford fiesta with the parcel shelf removed.
Ideally you want where you'll be sitting to sound somewhere in between. If where you're sitting you find yourself turning up the volume so you can hear the sub whilst working on tracks perhaps a subwoofer is needed (highly doubt that with 8" cones). If you're finding yourself swimming through a muddy mess of kick and sub without any definition regardless of what track you're playing, you've got too much reflection and low end and some correction is needed. You might get away with the settings on the rear of the monitor or you might need room treatment. Unless someone is sat in your room with your speakers essentially anything we say here is a complete stab in the dark - every room is unique.
Best thing to do is get a track that is mixed and mastered well. Something "clean" that has a wide spectrum. Play that and see how it sounds. Once you get over the novelty of "OMG ALL THE BASS" you'll be able to get used to your room. I usually use Dusky tracks when referencing to my own tracks. Their stuff is tight as it gets.
I remember once when I was at Uni I went to a house party and one of the dudes was getting into production, showed me his setup - it was a set of KRK's (6" I think) sat flat on a shitty Ikea desk with his laptop in between. I played one of my tracks. I was making really subby dubstep at the time and the whole room turned into this mess of vibration and rattling with all my carefully sculpted bass composition turning into the equivalent of soggy rotten fruit. I said "man that sounds terrible here I'll have to check the mix it was sounding alright at home" - he turned to me with a grin like a cheshire cat and said "m8 that sounds SICK". I could of punched the cones out of his monitors there and then.
Which brings me on to another point, buy speaker stands too. After monitors, in my opinion, they are the 2nd most important thing to creating your studio environment.
