Got a pair of ...
KRK KNS 8400
Audio Technicia M50
Had a pair of...
AKG K 271
I have stuck around the 100-150 price range.
What are some options up from 200 to anything around 500 what will benefit? These are just for the studio.

Unfortunately I don't have a suggest but rather a question. What do you think of the M50s? Thinking of picking a pair up for myself for college.

I prefer the KRKs.
M50s are heavy, clunky, have awkward low end and are only used as a reference point for me. I feel 100% confident mixing on my KRKs without even referencing on other systems.
This comes from someone who will try and talk anyone out of buying KRK monitors too.. They're the best pair of headphones i've ever had.
The AKG's are really nice too, around the same price range.
People go on about the Beyerdynamic DT 770M a lot. Maybe give them a look?

Alright cheers mate. Funny enough I actually have KRK monitors. Got them last Christmas because I needed some monitors and didn't have a great budget. Had no problems so far but I'm nowhere near the level of mixing where I can utilize them to their full potential. Cheers again though I'll do some research in to the Beyers.

There they are.
For Beyerdynamic I would rather go with the 990 pro's.
Compared those to my 770 pro's and they are better suitable for mixing/monitoring.

Rock the 770's, and after really hating them for a long time, realize the are the most accurate picture of my sound. Bass is not totally real, but it is descriptive, like if you feel the headphone driver working a certain way, you know how much bass, and where it is. They are also pretty good for tracking because they are closed, so very little headphone bleed on your singer. Also, they are actually studio kit, so have replaceable wire and what not. Have a kind of design flaw around the metal and the actual ear cup, can pinch yourself, and in a bad way, with a lot of force. Have learned to be careful with them. Your ears get sweaty as he'll. and I think, just maybe my jack is going bad, which is cool because I can put a new cable in, but I've got a pair of sony studio/consumer headphones that are 4 times as old and taken substantially more abuse and are fine ( in terms of cable and what not, actual driver seem to be getting a little sloppy.
Sorry for format, ipad, shitting gotta run!

Beyerdynamic scare me a bit, their headphones are ugly as hell and look cruddy in terms of build quality.
The cup size is HUGE, I feel like it'll just swamp my head rather than sit nicely.
Those Focal's are looking like the ones, looking for a place to go try em out!
Plus
Whats In The Box
Focal Spirit Professional
1 x detachable 4m coiled cable
1 x user manual
1 x straight detachable cable with remote control (calls management and microphone)
1 x jack connector 3.5 / 6.35mm
1 x carrying bag
2 cables!!

The DT990 Pro are amazing phones imo.
The size is a plus point not a negative.
beautiful valor ear pads that fit around your ears.
Huge sound stage due to the open back.
I can't complain at all.
Imo, you'd be hard pressed to find complaints with them.
imo they are good look phones as well.
Then again, I'm not looking for a storm trooper helmet for phones so the look suites me.
Build quality is top notch.

Yeah, the beyer's are studio gear. Built for real use, not moistening females on the train.

But if they do happen to moisten a female, you know she's a keeper.

I thought the 770's were ridiculously large, was wearing them one night and went to take a piss, caught a glimpse of myself in the mirror... looked like regular little headphones. *DAMN YOU IRISH ANCESTRY*

That's why you never take them off. Just unplug the cables if you have to go to the bathroom.
I'm actually so used to wearing headphones that I feel more comfortable with them on, even if I'm not listening to anything. If I'm trying to focus on reading something it's headphones on, hood up. Almost like horse-blinders or something.
