Why?
I have left the register of electors form this year cause I just can't be arsed to do anything with it considering I wont be voting, I just don't see much point.
Had one of those canvassers come knocking about 30 minutes ago but they woke me up so I was like nah go away.
So is anyone else in this position?
Just seems a but mad that in a democratic society we could be fined for not registering to vote??
Also I pay council taxes so they already know who lives at this address.

No you have to register to vote, the fine is for not registering

1000 is a bit much, but tbh im all about fining those who aren't registered. Having those laws in places has created a larger voter turnout in some countries.

Online voting needs to happen. If they could make it a free to use hack-proof app, voter turnout would go through the roof.

How about increasing the turnout by giving more attractive options?

Gathering consent for illegitimate gov's.

Is that supposed to be better or worse? If no one receives more than 50% of the vote, people that opted for the second or third tier parties will then just vote for the top-tier parties again. Great way to keep the status quo in place.

It can never happen, it has to be done manually and overlooked by local volenteers in polling stations. Democracy in Britain is already flawed in my opinion, digital voting would bury it. Sitting there on a tablet submitting a vote after you have just read a smear campaign on the mail online would be a lot different to getting off your arse, lining up with your neighbours and locals and facing a real ballot box and that's before the whole issue of abuse it could be open to.

It can be done.

Representation is necessary when communications and travel are slow. In our age, representation is becoming less necessary. More direct means of decision making need to be tried.

Is it possible to refuse to pay fines? Like, can you just say "No thanks your honour, i'll take prison time please"?

Nah mate, as soon as that form come through my letterbox, it get filled in and sent back, it's just an auto money maker for the twats.
