Getting back into the scene...

Hey all!

Been a long time away from DSF (and even longer from the Production forum) so it's nice to be back... Just wanted to post this, don't know if you guys have experienced or are going through a similar kind of thing but I didn't know whether you had any tips for me...

Essentially, I took an 18 month hiatus from working on Dubstep and tunes in general; mainly because the job I was in absolutely sucked (nothing like working in a place that illicits a feeling of dread when you realise that you're going to work there :|) and as a result I was pretty bummed out and didn't want to write music but also partially because I was organising my wedding and planning my future with my wife (:D)...

So, I have in the past few months started writing music again and finishing up some half-finished tunes but I just feel like I'm not getting the response I was before from people... I don't know what it is but I feel like I've lost the following I had and I don't know what I should be doing (or what I should be doing more) to connect to people outside, save for wasting money on advertising or something... Either that, or I'm just writing music that other people think sucks

Any thoughts?

Assuming your music is already up to par, if you're after getting more people listening to what you're doing, this thread is a great source of advice IMO;

Some interesting stuff in that post, I did see it and I would say that some of it I do and some of it I should probably do, will definitely take that post and work on the points though...

Think my problem is that I'm getting disheartened when I see I've got 1800 followers on SoundCloud and like 50 plays on a track from a day ago. I guess I'm setting myself up to get put down when people don't engage.

Did you consider you posted a track a couple days before Christmas? A lot of people are kinda distracted, Im guessing. Probably bad timing on that new tune...

I like the track in your sig I'mma follow you on SC.

I don't know really how to get people to listen to your music, which is why I have 14 followers on SC over the course of 8 months, but I think the best way is to just make a lot of friends and send your stuff to the big youtube channels and hope they put you on.

I did think that the festive period might cause this, but then there are tonnes of other tunes getting plays so idk how much that affects things hehe...

Chad, ta muchly :) will get a follow back shortly! Yeah, I've been sending tunes off to a couple places on the interwebs but nowhere on YouTube, might have to bug some peeps on there... always thought YouTube is primarily populated by 14 year olds who don't know what SoundCloud is but it might be worth whoring some stuff out to them...

Very much appreciate the replies guys, always loved the Production fam :

Just search for some big to moderately big dubstep/edm channels and they usually have an email or a soundcloud dropbox you can put your stuff in to show them.

Just would like to point out that there are so many top notch high quality songs getting dropped on sc, hourly, and they are all disappearing into nothingness.

I think you've got to look at sc as a song player. I think it does little for people who are wishing to be heard. You've got to get your hussle going elsewhere, and direct them back to sc to play the track.

Also dubstep is so so uncool now.

And welcome back.

Seems a lot of people took a vacation for a year, but are coming back. Like we all knew it was time.

Yeah you are right there noways, SoundCloud is like a melting pot of tasty beats... I just tend to use it to search for tunes, subscribed myself to a tonne of places like Dubstep.NET and I just scour the tracks most days and pick out the good ones for mixes and the like, guess not everyone has the time to faff about like I do

Will start whoring myself out to other places and get a following going then methinks...

Hahaha, just the way I like it tbh ;)

And thanks dude, glad to BE back! Feel like I'm home again :D And yeah, I think we all subconsciously realised that Dubstep is finally starting to become less of a "flavour of the month" genre and we can all go back to making Dubstep without being bothered by shitty pop groups again. :)
