Yes Peeps..

I know I might be in the wrong place with this being Dubstepforum n'all but I've been struggling on how to make this sound for a while now and I thought I'd see if anyone had any ideas here of how to make it..

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yFd15xwpfmY - The sound I am after is at 0.23 seconds..

This is a classic sound and so many different variations of it have been used in so many tunes. I can't get my head around it..

I think it's 2 square (maybe saw) waves detuned slightly against eachother, maybe with a 3rd square osc added pitched up 19 semitones (2rd harmonic) for added harmonics. It sounds like there is a slight low pass filter on there too automated for movement.

I understand there is probably a lot more to this sound, like chorus and reverb but I was just interested to see if anyone had any ideas on how to make the general sound?

Any one??

:6:

you seem pretty close

3 oscs of sin/square in massive (1 neg 12, other 2 detuned about 12 cents off 0), with the low one more sine than square and the detuned ones almost fully square(but a lil sine) a modulated bandreject, an enveloped lopass, some noise, an almost fully wet reverb and some drive/saturation in massive seems to get kind of close.

that being said, it has a very *interesting* reverb on it... so thats the final bit that I cant get lol
the 2nd harmonic is actually at Plus 12 semitones. 19 is the third harmonic (odd harmonic).

when you are dealing with saws/squares (not sines) they naturally already have these harmonics. you would just be emphasising ALL the odd harmonics by adding a square at 19.

It's defo something along those lines, think you're right about mixture of sine and square wave, saw'd prob have far too many harmonics..

Yeh I was having trouble with the reverb too.. Sounds like a send with a filter being automated after it.. Either way it's a bad sound, still can't master it tho..

Isn't 19 semitones the 2nd harmonic btw? An octave above would be the first following the fundimental wouldn't it?

If you're using reason just go into maelstrom and have two 16*squares at different octaves
