Logic Pro 9 – Different velocities for duplicate samples

I prefer to work with audio files for my drums, and I was wondering if there's a way to have different velocities for duplicates of the same sample on the same channel, like u would with midi notes, or is the only way for me to duplicate on to a new channel and adjust the volume of that channel? Also, what is the most efficient way to pitch drum samples as wavs in logic, is a plugin the only way? Thanks guys.

Use the Gain setting in the Parameter Box (top of the Inspector area on the left hand side). Click the region and adjust its Gain. Unfortunately the amplitude of the waveform doesn't update in Logic 9 but it does so in X (as well as allowing adjustments of 0.1dB for finer tuning of region levels).

If you double click the region you want to pitch, you can select Factory > Time and Pitch Machine in the Sample Editor window. Bear in mind this is a destructive process, so Convert Region To New Audio File first, and you'll have to enter the pitch adjustment as cents not semi-tones (e.g. enter -200 to drop the pitch by 2 semi-tones).
