i got this assignment that ive tried pretty hard on, but i didnt realise u had to use max msp ffs

does anyone use this much?

wondering if u could steer me in the right direction of what i need to do or maybe if anyone knows some good tutorials?

So far what i've done is; i've been out field recording in bristol and got loads of nice bits, ive then made a logic project and created a soundscape with them, and now what i need to do is get them to trigger in max.

Here's the brief of the max bit

Once you have produced your recorded soundscape you are to produce a nonlinear version of your soundscape using Max/MSP.
Typical applications of non-linear soundscapes are found in: video games, art installations, museums, mobile apps, and so on.You may choose to deconstruct your soundscape in
various ways, either by dividing into:
• premixed loops from your recorded soundscape;
• stems i.e., bounces of each track from the multitrack project; or
• the original sounds used to make the soundscape.

You should then recombine (i.e., remix, re-sequence) these elements using Max/MSP. Random processes, parameter control mapping, or a combination of
both techniques may drive the Max/MSP project employing your sounds.

So i think what i wanna do is:

Have a 3 minute stem that you tigger to play

then other stems comes in on a timer, 15 seconds later, 30 seconds later etc

then some random one shots you can trigger

and then a way to fuck up the sounds, with reversing n effects or some other kewl tingz ya get me

Loadbang that starts one file playing
have it also toggle on a metro object into a counter. Then have conditional objects that will output a bang when the counter goes above certain numbers and have them trigger the other sounds. That should in the most basic way mean that every time you load the patch a file plays and then more do after certain amounts of time.

Agent, I think the reason why that is doing that is because every movement on that slider will trigger an output, causing the stutter to occur. When you let go of the slider, there isn't an output occurring as the slider is static. You would have to incorporate that slider into something that causes a bang to trigger with a higher frequency the higher up the slider you go (I would suggest outputting it to an integer and then routing that to something that will output bangs at that frequency per second)

I used Max MSP for my Creative Music Tech course so if you want my essays on the thing then you're more than welcome to them (though it's been a good few years since I used it properly).

nah srsly tho how does max work? i know i have to use it next year to get a wii remote or something similar to control a sound via filters and panning ect.

pretty easy tho if u cba to do the tutorials it comes with i reckon

if u alt click on anything it comes up with how it works and a working set of everything u need & u can just paste it in your own patch which is pretty useful

It's essentially a modular workspace - although it's got it's roots firmly in Audio, there is so much more that you can do with it. Jitter, it's video counterpart, allows for more objects related to editing and messing with video stuff as well.

It's essentially an acousmatic or music concrete artist's wet dream; truly hipster fare. But you can do a hell of a lot with it if you know what you're doing.

As Agent said, the good thing is that each module has it's own tutorial page which fully explains what it does and the variables that can be edited in order to make stuff work. You can even copy and paste the stuff in the tutorial page if you want to mess with what they've done.
