Based in Manchester, Compa has been releasing records for less than two years, but has already built up one hell of a reputation in steppers’ circles: he closed Fabric’s Room 1 last year, and has scene godfathers like Coki and Mala – who recently recruited Compa to his Deep Medi clique - regularly spinning his tracks.
It’s no surprise he’s found favour with the Mystikz, however – despite being in his early 20s, Compa only DJs off vinyl and dubplates. As he explained to FACT last year, “being dedicated to my roots is definitely in me as a person. It’s something i’m proud of – to represent what inspired me originally within dubstep, like cutting dubplates for example.” In an age where diversity and hybridity are constantly emphasised, it’s refreshing for a producer to have Compa’s sense of purity – and yes, an admirably narrow vision – when it comes to their music.
His FACT mix is almost entirely made of his own productions, with exceptions made for Vivek, Digital Mystikz and a handful of others. Recess is over. It’s time for class.
I think I'd rate Compa more as a DJ is he didn't play his own tunes, when I saw him it deep medi xmas it was good but then he'd drop one of his and it spoiled it a bit

not a bad mix, some of his new productions are sounding good imo. The tune with Ipman, Tibetan Chant & Blood Loss especially.

imo Compa's only "crime" is being passionate about dubstep well after the shine wore off of it.

I liked nabreah or whatever it was called and I used to listen to security when it came out, never really heard anything else he's made. That rubbish about dubplates and purity is a bit naff though

not hating, just not my taste. i mean he's obviously talented enough to make some more.... interesting.. tunes. he just doesn't for whatever reason.

Well I have never met the guy so can't judge him too much but he has a habit of constantly putting his foot in it online. He just has a very weird way of expressing himself that makes him sound kind pretentious, up himself a bit or just obsessed with the image of being some sort of dubstep "true head". He's not a dick or anything but I can understand why if you followed him online you could get rubbed the wrong way by what he says at times. I personally don't know. He could be in it for all the right reasons but he does say some cringe worthy things sometimes.
On subject though this mix doesn't do anything for me. Never been massively into his sound and also I don't really like the whole "playing nothing but my own tunes" style of djing either so this mix just really isn't for me. Not like it's actually bad just not for me so much
