I have heard a lot about panning in ableton live. I just wrote an article on panning with live and how to improve it with the Utility. The article goes over how Ableton goes about panning by reducing volume of left or right, but might not be what you are looking for. I then go into the utility, how making use of it to pan, as well as some other ideas.

Love to hear your opinion on the live panning and how you get a better mix as well.

I pan with waves plugins because live is stupid with panning, Utility is a handy little plugin though. I always keep one on my master to check my mixes in mono. Or to just reduce the stereo width of samples, it's good for a bunch of stuff.

You know your DAW is terrible if it can't even pan properly.
