A YouTube search shows a "beezin" trend seemed to begin about a year ago. "Beezin" is when a person applies a light layer of Burt’s Bees natural lip balm wax on their eyelids.
In the videos, some who take part in "beezin" said it adds to the experience of being drunk or high. Others claim it helps keep them alert.
KOKH in Oklahoma interviewed a doctor who said smearing lip balm on eyelids will cause an immediate tingling or burning sensation brought on by peppermint oil, an ingredient in the balm.
Another doctor told WFSB in Connecticut that health risks could include symptoms similar to pink eye and a more serious risk of infection, particularly if someone uses the lip balm on a cold sore before putting it on their eyelids.
The first mention of "beezin" was submitted to Urban Dictionary in 2010.
