A simple distorted square with a pitch - envelope.
Lately , the Skrillex sound design it's very simple (except the growls)

It's either bitspeek or izotope trash he's using to get that sound, I'd wager that it's the former. He uses the same effect on the vocals at 2:01, as well as various other points on the album.

You're all wrong. It's a sine wave going through a scream filter, I'll post an example soon.

Basically it's just a sine wave going through a scream filter ( you gotta adjust the scream filter to get the identical sound, with some feedback, tube distortion, parabolic shaper, and some noise).

I'd love for some more in depth knowledge but you've given enough for me to experiment.

Just be careful with the scream filter, small tweaks cand change your sound into good or bad.

Could you please go into a tiny bit more detail on this?
I'm running a sine wave through the scream filter and i'm gettin a similarish sound using the parabolic shaper on it but i'm not getting the right timbre especially when i jump down a few notes like the 2nd part of your example
Are you modding the scream filter?
I have the scream just above the halfway point and resonance centered and any tiny adjustments i make totally changes the sound

That's because you have to find the sweet spot of the resonance / scream. You need to add bright noise with full color and amp at around 11 o'clock, and also add feedback. You can also use hardclipper with full dry/wet and drive instead of parabolic shaper and bitcrusher with the same settings. Classic tube and dimension expander by choice

Cant find it
Everytime I get the scream filter about right i adjust the resonance and it either throws it out of whack or when i drop down to the lower note it doesnt sound right
Props to you, this shit is hard

Nice work Vault. Did you reroute the encryptions? HAahah, aka, did you move any of your filters around in the routing besides using the New Sound settings? That is definitely a finicky sound.

Ok...I got something close but like all skrillex re-makes...still far off. Vault...you pretty much own this...do you mind if I post my patch? Without your suggestions, I wouldn't have found this. The hardest part is getting the pitch right because the feedback and the scream filter settings change the pitch. Everything is super finicky with this patch...it quite pisses me off.
Thats pretty much exactly what mine sounds like but i cant get it any damn closer to vaults

Actually....we might be over thinking it. If I initialize the patch and then just turn stuff on...it gets pretty close. Try this...
do "new sound"
Detune OSC1 to -24, make it a sin
Turn on Scream filter and move the cutoff to 100% (the rest are default to 50%)
Turn Insert 1 on to the Parabolic shaper and leave everything at 50%
At this point, it is pretty similar.
I tweaked the noise just as vault said...bright noise around 11 with full color
My feedback is pointing to the "A" in "Post A"
I put on the classic tube / dExpand combo
EQd and compressed to taste. I also added some saturation.
It comes in pretty close just doing that but still not quite.
This reminds me of the Kyoto lead. In FM8 is is ridiculously simple but it just shows that someone with a lot of talent can tweak something simple and make it work wonders.
