Okay so after playing around in massive, I managed to achieve somewhat a similar sound to Zomboy & Must Die's - Survivor Sound!
In the soundcloud link the original track will play and you'll hear it. The second part to the track will be my remake of the sound! I hope you all like it. I'm not interested in giving this out as a free preset because that's not learning! However. I will show you what curve I used for it! http://gyazo.com/e791ca7ac21eb31495a30f7376a8844c
That's a starting point for you all.. I will also tell you that this requires 2 filters. The top passing through to the bottom filter. That is all. I hope you have fun in trying to achieve this bass and please show me if you have got any closer than I have with this! Soundcloud

Don't post the fucking sound if you're not even gonna shed light on how you made it. Not that I personally want to know, but for other people that might be interested that's a dick move.

Excuse me, I'm pretty sure the whole purpose of the sound design forums is to help people with a particular sound and NOT just giving people the sound. After all, if you read this again, " I'm not interested in giving this out as a free preset because that's not learning!". And I want people to learn how to make basses instead of just being given the bass. I took hours to get that bass and I did it through trail and error. But seriously though. I think replying like that is a dick move.
And if people were genuinely interested in getting the bass. They would do it themselves instead of having things handed to them.
But instead of just arguing over this. I'll give out 5 HINTS to what this bass includes.
- Carbon
- Bandreject
- Double Notch
- Mod OSC is used
- Bending 1

Haha yeah I agree with Sure_Fire. I am going to dick you back and hijack this thread with a patch that is closer AND show how I did it. The community part of this board is to work on patches together so everyone can learn.

Agree with you guys... as much as we appreciate hints, we really appreciate "good" hints a lot more. Coming in bragging about making a sound and then giving out the LFO curve as your advice is pretty weak . That being said I do appreciate any and all posts so bigup to both of you

Here's what I got by tweaking the above slightly and adding a small effects chain (EQ, Reverb, Compression, Distortion). I think it sounds pretty awesome! I don't think I've heard the song Survivors... so I just played around a bit Soundcloud

I like the idea of posting everything because someone might know how to tweak the sound to make it even better. If you have a signature sound, keep it secret but replicating someone else's....dont act like you have the holy grail peep show.

Haha really? I was a free download on his soundcloud. Go snag it if you are willing to sell your soul to "like" Zomboy.
I am missing the upbeat "ting" so if captain secretive will chime in, there might be a solid patch hashed out.

"Good" hints?... Seriously?
Explain what you mean by 'good hints'.. I think I gave you reasonable and fair hints without actually releasing the sound. The whole purpose of me doing that is so that you can EXPERIMENT using the hints and instead of the preset being, "given for free". You can achieve either a better bass than I have or maybe a replica of it.
Bansey's pixelated picture of the patch is technically similar to mine. It's more of a spot the difference actually and props to you for being able to get it and to one up on your pixelated picture. I have "Chimed in" and will now show you my patch. I don't want to make excuses for not just giving it out but as for me being no so good of a sound designer and that I've only just started doing it more. I didn't want to just give out my 2 day hard work trying to replicate it as much as I can as it's my first proper one I've been able to do I'd rather I let people experiment first so they can at least TRY before just getting the patch and also because of this. I've been secretive about it because I don't want others to have it just yet until I at least helped people experiment with using the hints and see what they get out of this.
And actually seeing that you've actually had a go at it. I think now might be a good time to show you mine and we can form these together and see how that goes.
I'm sorry for being a "dick" but I didn't want to release anything about it at the time. Also, I've not been here long enough to know that everyone just wants the patch and for my first proper thread. I've now experienced that the hard way.
Finally to try and redeem myself of my mistake of not releasing it and giving, "good" hints,
my next reply here will be a video showcasing the sound in action PLUS a mediafire download to the patch ALONG with a HD Gyazo to save a picture of it in case the download doesn't work and/or it gets removed. Now how's that about hijacking the thread More like taking back what was mine
Hey man, no worries. I think that you just went about that sound in a braggy sort of way like...I found the holy grail...I will give you hits to my greatness. To give you props...I wouldn't have come up with that sound so your hints DID get me to my patch,
Now...on to your patch. I like the upbeat "ting" that you have so I was curious how that was coming about. One major thing to note is that your patch Mod OSC section has all of the settings going to wave table 1 but you are using only 2 and 3 so it isn't doing anything. You can just turn the MOD section off to simplify things. Thanks for making everything available though. I think that it is cool we made similar sounds but used the wavetables pretty differently.

Wow haha, I never realised that it wasn't doing anything to the sound (the mod OSC) well my explanation for that is that I had used A.I in the OSC 1 so thats where the mod osc 1 came from (BTW REPLACING CARBON WITH A.I SOUNDS AMAZING!) but yeah...
I'm glad that we have managed to make good out of our "argument" we had You don't usually see that much these days!

Yeah no worries man, it is a good healthy discussion. Everyone holds some bit of knowledge that everyone can learn from so no sense making enemies.

Yeah, I removed it to help regain my upload amount
Here's a YouTube video, where I play the sound first thing. Then explain afterwards. I also released the sound on there too If you look in the description. But feel free to like the video afterwards if it has helped you

For anybody who is wondering how to get that pitch shifting for the second part of the growl.
You could do something where you apply an envelope to the CARBON OSCILLATOR + THE SINE OSCILLATOR'S PITCH and put it to about an octave up (+12) [NOTE: OR JUST MESS AROUND WITH THE PITCH] and change the envelope's delay so it's pointing at the D (No pun intended) in "Delay" and the attack all the way to the left and then the envelope will take effect at the point it needs to for the pitch shifting effect to take place
Hope this helps for anyone who's willing to try and perfect this sound further!
