for me, I have spurts
I'll make 4 tunes in 2 weeks and then nothing for a month
depends on:
a. how busy I am
b. how fucked my world and my wallet are
............................................................................
so for my inspiration, it can come from anywhere
a song I haddn't heard in years,
a good gig,
herbs,
girls,
etc..
I believe that creativity and inspiration cannot be forced. They can however, be channeled given the right mindset and vibe.
funny because I recently made a tune called "Transcend" where I sampled David Lynch talking about this very topic
click on the link to my virb if you are interested in what old Dave has to say.
but dryspells happen to everyone.
in time, they pass

check that out.
for me the concentration bugs me. If i try too hard it wont work. you've to get stable flow. even if you think its nothing, try to keep on and finish it a bit. you can edit your whole song after all if you found 1 good sound in a synth/sample/drums/fx/whatever.
dont be too critic on yourself in the beginning its not product yet. its product when its done and you just begon the shit ^^

yeh thats a good piece of writing
i like this quote.... and as i said on a previous reply, listen to something else musically.
For instance, you are working on a massive orchestral piece with a great melody and all the sudden you get a crazy idea while listening to Cuban jazz on the radio. Yep, you need "a hot rhythm". You try an Afro-Cuban bongo track under your score and and it rocks! You play the piece and a new meaning unfolds. It now makes sense, and you keep the change and go off in a new direction. Ah, pleasure, keep this piece going!
So what happened? You got lucky! And Stravinsky would commend your powers of observation and your sense of style. The point? If you never in your life heard an Afro-Cuban beat you could not have come upon this solution. It is the drawing upon musical culture that makes style.

Yo i just watch a gangsta or horror movie and think 4 whut samplezes sounds like that DOPE LOLOL then i take them that samplez an play that with wobble bass add some gun locks and then i make it drop the BOOM U just got 2 use ur imajinatioin.
Like others have said, go listen to other music. Anything but Dubstep, and especially the stuff I described above. Then, if you hear something different that excites your ear, see if you can make something similar that goes at 70/140 and has a big bass.

use melodical samples is also cool .... sometimes your ears wanna have a live feeling with instruments.. then i wont get a sax out of a vst
