The Hendrix, Pink Floyd of our generation?

I know there can only be one Experience, only one Dark Side of the Moon etc etc

But there must be someone...

I keep thinking Danny Brown's a sort of a modern-day Hendrix. As for Floyd... Radiohead comes to mind but they're more or less done now, so I really don't know. I would have liked to have said Kanye if his lyrics weren't so egotistic

I hope to see some funny suggestions

"Funny" answers:

Tracks
Yung Lean
Burgaboy

4 real doe:

Kanye, wether you like him or not he has that position
Kendrick Lamar, especially if he dies soon (not that I hope that lol)
Aphex Twin maybe.

But I'm taking your question to be exclusively about people with the Pink Floyd level of fame, where they're considered a musical great by lots of people. Those guys aren't my favorites or anything.

I guess the true answer is we won't know who's the Pink Floyds etc of our generation until a couple of decades have passed.

EDIT: In terms of UK urban music, Wiley, possibly actually Mala, Photek, Burial

There aren't any. Maybe until Napster you could think of some, but the internet has changed the game. People don't listen to music like they used to. The divide between mainstream and underground is so radically different now and the culture around music is so not what it used to be.

Kanye reminds me of someone who just read Nietzsche and wants to become the embodiment of the Übermensch.

Impossible to compare imo, I dunno what you'd be comparing them on.

You could argue Aphex/Burial just as much as Kanye. You could make a good argument for hundreds of artists. It'd be hard in this generation to have a mix of originality, musical genius, longevity AND popularity because popular music tends to be mostly horseshit.

Nirvana come to mind if by Hendrix you mean died too young.

Kanye may be an asshole, but future generations are going to look at him as alot more forward thinking than "we" gave him credit for.

Pitchfork gave him a 10.

There's no shortage of people thinking his music, both for himself and the music he "directs" for guys like Pusha, is forward-thinking.

You can't deny the dude is a musical leader, not a follower, a chief keef remix here and there aside.

Again, this doesn't mean Kanye is the greatest of our generation. But he's an original and forward-thinking figure, who has a gigantic audience and a gigantic influence on music as a whole. And it's been that way for a while now.

That IMO qualifies him. Whether you think his music is up to par with Pink Floyd's isn't relevant.

Also Kanye seems like he's on the brink of a meltdown at all times, which defo puts him in that sort of rock star category
